Not necessarily: Everyone with type 2 diabetes should get a formal eye examination on a regular basis. Double vision isn't a typical symptom of diabetes.

Multiple sclerosis: Doesn&#x27;t sound particularly likely with the normal mri, especially if it was done with gadolinium contrast.  Undergoing a lumbar puncture to analyse the CSF may be worth doing.  For the record, loss of colour vision is the most common and often the earliest visual symptom of ms.

6-12 weeks: If double vision is from a diabetic mono-neuropathy, meaning damage to one of the nerves innervating the eye muscles, then typically it takes anywhere from 2 to 3 months to regenerate.  These are vascular insults and can come from diabetes or high blood pressure or other vascular diseases.

Diplopia: Most likely is intermittent micro vascular occlusion that cleared, hard to tell cause, most commonly is associated with high blood pressure, diabetes, atherosclerosis, but could judy be vasoapasm.

Opthalmic Neurologis: You should consukt an opthalmic neurologist as there are other neurological conditions which can like multiple sclerosis, migraine, increased pressure inside the brain, brain tumors etc to list a few.We can not tell you what is the cause of double vision in your case.

May have prediabetes: insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, testing can be useful to check. If so poor absorption of B vitamins and folic acid are common to people having these problems.

Diplopia: Doubling of vision can occur for many reasons.  The most common is misalignment of the eyes which can be from trauma or damage to nerves leading to the eye muscles.  Have you had an event from which one might predict you would get doubling of vision?   You could ask about that in another question.

Needs evaluation: If you have the onset of doubling recently it can be a symptoms of tumor, aneurysm, trauma or a stroke.  Double vision is uncomfortable, usually intolerable as the images both are legitimate and your brain cannot choose between them.  You should be seen by a neuro-ophthalmologist who can diagnose the cause.
