Depends: On what is causing your problem. This is a condition that needs to be evaluated by an ophthalmologist to see what's going on. It can be quite serious or minor. Get an exam.

Cause?: Do you know your diagnosis? Many reasons for double vision - from congenital strabismus, internuclear ophthalmoplegia, brain tumors, meningitis ... Best person to answer this in your particular case is a neuro-ophthalmologist (rare to find, there are only a few hundred in the country). May need to ask your md to refer you to the nearest medical school.

Double vision: It depends on the cause. If the cause is an optical issue due to astigmatism, glasses or contact lenses will correct it. If it is due to misalignment of the eyes, determining and treating the underlying cause should correct the problem.
