Check for cancer: A man needs an annual prostate exam to assess for nodules. Nodules are suspicious for cancer. 25% of men with prostate cancer have a normal psa reading but a nodule on the prostate.

Prostate exams also give a clinician an idea of enlargement, which can guide therapy for trouble with urination.

: Good Evening. Now a day prostate cancer screening is done by Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test alone. Digital rectal examination (DRE) is generally not recommended as a screening test for prostate cancer, either alone or in combination with a PSA. Guidelines from most of the specialty societies do not suggest DRE for screening but if someone still doing it then DRE should be done yearly.

An annual physical exam and overall health check up is advisable.
You are unlikely to have a problem with your prostate gland/PSA.

: Your PSA kevel is normal.You aready have been examined by a Urologist and he founda lump in the prostate.Did the urologist recommend biopsy of the lump?
A lump on prostate id usually a nodule and it can be cancerous.You need to follow up with your Urologist for Lump/nodule to rule out Cancer by doing biopsy.With a lump on digital exam he must have told you if you need biopsy or follow up.
