Inflammation: Sounds like inflammation. Must search for cause. Rule out food sensitivity. About 10 percent of population can be sensitive to nightshades, about 30-40 percent can be sensitive to gluten and casein. Other more common food sensitivities include soy, corn, beef, etc. Consider food elimination for at least 2-3 months. Leigh wagner, rd is a good dietitian who can help by phone: 913-588-6208.

my left ankle has been swelling for the last month. i have noticed in the past 2 weeks my low calf has now swollen. my left  foot is starting to not fit in my shoes. i was given a prescription of prednisone, but the swelling has gotten worse.

Yes, right away!: Horrible pelvic pain and menstrual-like cramping at 36 weeks needs to be checked out right away.   You need to be seen in Ob Triage tonight to make sure you are not in labor.  Also, your blood pressure is a bit on the high side and you are swelling.  These can be signs of pre-eclampsia.  This is another reason not to delay to get checked out by ob triage right away. Swelling Feet/Ankles: Severe swelling in the feet and ankles is a major concern. It could be from poor venous return and simply need support hose, much more foot elevation daily, a reduction in salt intake, and more ankle exercises. It could also be from kidney and cardiac causes and should be worked up carefully. Dr rich blake.

Yes, if too tight: If you wrap your knee too tight which prevents the blood/lymph from returning from the foot/leg to your heart, yes you can have swelling.
If you remove the wrapping and the swelling gets better, you got your anwswer.
If the swelling is persistent and/or if you have pain in the leg, calf etc...Consult doc because you may have a blood clot etc...

Swelling: Water retention is common among those with kidney issues or other medical issues.  Although the calfs/ankles may get "puffy", this may just be your normal body type.  Sometimes during pregnancy, you may experience body changes, are there other medical problems you have?

It could be : try leg elevation, cool ice water and topical hydrocortisone three times a day, add antihistamine as well if not improving see doctor

Swelling: Typically knee surgery can affect the venous outflow from the lower limb and cause swelling below the surgical site. Also if compression dressing or wraps are applied to the knee this will cause an increase in the fluid retention.
