i have all sleep apnea symptoms, but i don't choke or gurgle to catch my breath every night.  can that happen with obstructive apnea?

Sleep apnea. : So by symptoms, do you mean daytime sleepiness and snoring?  If so, this could very well still be sleep apnea. A sleep study would tell us for sure.

do people with sleep apnea have it every night? can you get a sleep study, and not have apnea that night?

: in cases of true sleep apnea, I doubt that it will skip a.night entirely.  Sleep apnea can come and go during a night,. A  specialist in sleep studies can advise you best.

doctor suspects i have sleep apnea. cause i snore once and wake up feeling without breath. he refered me for the test. my concern is will they notice if sleep apnea cause not every night happens approx 2 or 3 times a week?

Accepted Answer

: Sleep apnea is a pattern defect. Those affected by this issue have events every hour or so during sleep as their body moves through the different sleep stages. If you truly have treatable sleep apnea it will show up on a standard study. Affected people rarely fully awaken for most of their events.

resmed apap for sleep apnea shows an ahi of 1 to 2 per night (which is normal) however wake up multiple times every night and feel hyperarousal/anxiety in morning which subsides in the evening. how to reduce sympathetic overdrive? on valsartan for bp?

: Did your sleep study show other abnormalities such as restless leg syndrome,insomnia,nightmares?  Thyroid function tested?  I'm not sure you're experiencing sympathetic nervous system overactivity. For your anxiety,perhaps stress management counselling would be helpful.  Hopefully habit forming tranquilizers&amp; sleeping meds will be avoided.

is 5 minutes of oxygen level below 90% while sleeping every night bad for you? i suffer from sleep apnea? i wear continuous pulse oximeter every night?

: If it is 5 continuous minutes, that is more of an issue than if it is one minute at a time and it adds up to 5 minutes over the course of the night. If you are using CPAP or BiPAP, perhaps it needs to be adjusted if you are still having a pulse ox of less than 90% for 5 minutes at a time. Let your doctor know so that adjustments can be made if needed. Good luck!

Depends: There are a lot of factors involving sleep apnea 
weight, neck circumference, tonsils, airway, malocclusion of teeth but it can be a very high number.

my 3 years old gasps for breath during his sleep this has happened 2 or 3 times by now but it is not every day, could this still be a form of sleep apnea?

Yes: He may have sleep disordered breathing and a video may be uploaded to a scheduled Healthtap consultation for review. 
Rinse nasal passages with saline to relieve congestion, avoid dust, mold and pet dander. Wash sheets in hot water and please see your Pediatrician.

Suggestive: It can be and is worth discussing the issue with your doctor especially if you have been observed to stop breathing at night.  Are you still pregnant?

: Never use abbreviations in medicine. It can be deadly.  If you mean Losartan etc might try taking it in AM.  Discuss with you Dr. Go go Drugs.com and look up side effects and discuss.

what could cause heart to race every morning when i first wake up. i have sleep apnea and use cpap. i also take a beta blocker?

: Are you taking the beta blocker to treat hypertension?  In the early morning hours our bodies gear up with release of cortisol hormone   which raises BP &amp; elevates heart rate. Your beta blocker may be wearing off at that time. Taking it a bedtime may obviate this reaction. Check with your MD to see if he/she agrees.
