No: I think that compound is not that great for anything.(personal opinion). The stye is an eyelash gland infection ; can respond to local warm compresses ; eyelid cleansing with local antibiotic cream.

Patients : Patients often get put on antibiotics for a chalazion and this is rarely needed because this is not an infection.  It is an inflammation and topical anti-inflammatories are helpful.  I often use ophthlmic steroids for this condition.  Unfortunately, these sometimes progress to the point that they need to be surgically drained in the office.

Stye:  If you are using red hot compresses - that is way too hot for the eye &amp; the delicate tissues surrounding it.   Compresses should be warm. The shampoo could also cause irritation.  At this point, it sounds like injury has occurred and medical assessment is warranted.

No : Similasan stye  active ingredients are: graphites , sulphur & conium maculatum which are soothing to the eye & possibly mildly anti-inflammatory.  A sty is an infection of meibomian oil glands in the eyelid.  Rx consists of daily 10 minute hot moist packs followed by 30sec scrubbing of eye lashes.  You also need an anti-biotic steroid combination to decrease inflammation & treat the infection. The.

Not necessarily: First find out if it is a stye (painful, infective) or a chalazion (no pain, less visible and more chronic). Stye requires local warm compresses, local and sometimes systemic antibiotics. Chalazion requires warm compresses, steroid drops and i also offer meibomian gland probing technique in some cases. In recalcitrant cases, surgical drainaige will be needed. Rule out rosacea.

Ocular irritation: The type of climate you work in does predispose you to ocular irritation. Usually when something gets into the eye, like dust, your reaction is to rub the eyes which can cause irritation, contamination, damage to the delicate oil gland orifices or channels that may cause styes. Use protective eyewear to help reduce the exposure. Use lubrication eye drops or eye rinses if something gets in your eye.

Needs consultation: Any child with a persistent stye or chalazion needs a consultation with an ophthalmologist to determine the underlying reason.  "styes" generally develop in response to chronic eyelid gland inflammation.  Treatment is aimed at not only treating the stye but preventing future problems as well.  In extreme cases, styes may develop into cellulitis or skin infection requiring more intense treatment.

i was at work and i splashed a bunch of dirty dishwater into my eye. its been over 24 hours and my right eyelid is a little inflamed but so far no redness or pain. should i worry? ive been using an eyewash, eyedrops and stye cream just in case?

: You had watched your eyes after the accidental flash and that was enough. There is no need to use eye drops or stye cream prophylactically. Your eyes should be fine. Your eyelids are mildly irritated but infection could not happen that fast. Take care.
