Yes: Metoprolol is a beta blocker which is one of the medications used to treat or decrease the occurrence  of svt. It is not the only treatment however and may not always be effective.

Danger: Calcium channel blockers like Diltiazem can help control svt. May have less side effect than beta blockers like metoprolol.
Would not stop medications without consulting your doctor first & have your thyroid checked.

12 hours apart: Ideally, you would take the 2 doses 12 hours apart, e.g. 8 am and 8 pm, 9 am and 9 pm, etc.  In most cases, you should be able to adjust the times around your sleep time and activities to fit your daily lifestyle.

Dose dependent: It's not so much the med as the dose - since the side effect of all BBs is to lower BP. If your BP becomes too low, you'll get dizzy. That said, the BB I like the best for SVT is nadolol. The usual dose is 20-80 mg once a day, but for you, I'd recommend starting at 10 mg once a day and if you tolerate it, think about increasing the dose.

SVT: When you say SVT-there are several ones (for example, AVnRT, AVRT, atrial tachycardia etc). Depending on which type, these may spontaneously abort and in some cases recur. First line treatment is medical therapy as in your case. If you continue to have symptoms despite optimal medical therapy, an electrophysiologic study and ablation of an abnormal electrical pathway may help.

Not completely safe: The trigger for svt needs to be determined. Stress ; holter. Metoprolol comes in 3x/day ; once daily forms. Daily form at doses of 12.5-25 mgs unlikely to lower BP in a young hydrated person and may control svt. Diltiazem er has some blood pressure lowering properties but is a good choice for svt. Diltiazem sa 120mgs is anti-inotropic, but this is a low dose. Both but may reduce endurance mildly.

Please check with OB: Pregnancy and svt should be closely monitored by your obstetrician!  Lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) would not be my drug of choice with your pregnancy in mind; would rather have prescribed an alpha-blocker...And any medication must be category b.  Please check with your o.B.!

SVT: Not knowing what time you wrote this question I would probably take the metoprolol early and then if it doesn't work go to the ER.  However, if you are having any pain or shortness of breath I would go right away.  It probably would be a good thing at this point to see a cardiologist who does ablations to permanently fix your problem.
