Your carotid artery: is not blocked. Blocked carotid does not hurt. You may have some sort of infection or inflammation involving your ear or  lymphnodes in neck or neck muscle spasms or even cervical strain  or sprain.

Modify Risk Factors: Work with your physician to identify major risk factors that can be optimized including blood pressure, lipoproteins (ldl, hdl), blood sugar, weight, diet, and physical activity.

Risky: That is a very risky strategy, and i wouldn't recommend it or do it on any of my patients.

Very important.: The standard test involves checking both sides. Plaque may be silently building up on one or other side.

Stroke: Stroke or mini-stroke (TIA) is the main risk of carotid artery blockage. In general, approximately 1/2 of strokes are due to carotid disease

Possibly: Falling for no apparrent reason and being 'semiconscious' suugests a seriuos problem, perhaps another stroke. Please have your husband evaluated ASAP

Carotid pain: 43 is a little early for significant carotid artery disease.  While disease in your carotid artery can most certainly cause tias and strokes when it gets severe, it almost never ever hurts.  Much more likely neck strain; something musculoskeletal.

should i get a carotid u/s if im having reoccurring sharp pain?  only last seconds, sometimes one side sometimes the other.  my bp is normal to low..

No you don't need: Carotid stenosis would not give sharp neck pain as you describing. If you have carotid artery stenosis, which is very unusual as like your young age, may cause weakness if the opposite extremities.

left neck pulsate much more than right side  so i did ultra of carotid andit was fine. should i drop this now? is it normal for one side pulsate more?

Yes: Drop it.  There is a lot of asymmetry and variability in the right and left sides of the body.  It is harmless.

ANS: you have hardening of the arteries likely from smoking, high blood cholesterol, high BP and bad inheritance. Discuss with team and ask about starting the Ornish diet make 2 help go away. Only you can do it!
