Depends: If your deviated septum has enough bending and twisting it will cause your nose to be crooked.  When you straighten the septum it will straighten the nose  if your nose is straight and you do a deviated septum surgery you nose will stay the same.

Sometimes it can: Though not common, sometimes the shape of the nose can change after septum surgery, (depending upon the extent of the septal surgery).

Shouldn't change: If the operation is limited to the septum the appearance of your nose should not change.  In some cases the very tip of the nose may move just a little.

In some cases a rhinoplasty  is done at the same time with the intent of changing the appearance of the nose.

Crooked nose: A deviated septum can contribute to the appearance of a crooked nose but correcting the septal deviation may not be enough to straighten your nose. Have your nose evaluated by a board certified facial plastic surgeon.

Usually not.: Unless you specifically request (and pay for) cosmetic changes to your nose, deviated septum surgery corrects the internal deformity of your septum. Severe septal injury can also involve externally-visible nasal deformity, and proper repair may involve more than septoplasty alone--this would be called septo-rhinoplasty, and is often considered reconstructive and not cosmetic in nature.

Check with ENT : Each surgery is different. Your ENT or plastic surgeon can give you an idea of how long a/he believes you should be in pain, how long b4 you can resume normal level activity, and when you should see optimal results.  (Typically 1 week until back to work, one month to resume all activity, one year until all swelling is resolved) -- but the best way to know is ask ur doc!

You need the packing: The packing is important to prevent against nosebleeds, you don't want to be bleeding excessively after surgery. You want this to be a time for successful healing.

Technically...: ...Fixing a deviated septum is called a "septoplasty".  It can help with breathing, and can also help straighten a crooked nose.  That's somewhat different than a "rhinoplasty", when the bones and cartilages of the nose are re-shaped to give a different external appearance.  Sometimes, both are done together.

Swelling: Most of swelling should resolve in 3-4 weeks. May take three months. Ask your surgeon about the bump.
