can corneal abrasion cause astigmatism?

Usually not: Corneal abrasions are superficial defects in the clear layer of cells on top of the cornea called the epithelium.  These usually heal without problems - possibly recurrent erosion.  Deeper injuries such as lacerations and perforations can most definitely induce astigmatism - sometimes being difficult to correct with glasses.

Yes: Ask for high index lenses.  These are the thinnest ones.  Also pick a small frame to reduce the total weight of the glasses.

Could: If you have uncorrected astigmatism, that can cause eye strain, which can cause headaches that typically feel like they come from the eye or the brow. If you're wearing accurate correction, however, it should not cause headaches.

i was diag with ambylopia, nystagmus, high eye pressure and astigmatism. is it normal to have this many eye conditions without an underlying cause?

Not rare: Astigmatism is a developmental ovalness of the eye and occurs to some degree in over 60% of humans.  Amblyopia and nystagmus usually develop at birth or at young age.  High blood pressure can occur at any age but is more common in those older than you.  These are largely independent and not due to an underlying common cause.

would needing glasses cause of astigmatism cause u to have a weird lightheaded feeling n swaying at time 6 yrs 24/7 my eye dr says no anx cause funny ?

Probably not a cause: The need for astigmatism correction will not cause any symptom except blurred vision.  WEARING the correction in glasses is another issue. People can get a lightheaded or swimming sensation and possibly distortion of vision with certain types of glasses prescriptions. These symptoms might also be dependent on how the glasses are made (centration, curvature). Contact lenses minimize these symptoms.

i had a question about my eyes, i was wondering if having astigmatism could play in or cause other eye problems.. for example i see flashes of lights and floating objects from time to time?

See ophthalmologist: Astigmatism would cause blurry vision but won't cause "floaters" or flashes of light. Floaters represent small pieces of gelatinous vitreous humor floating in the more liquid center of the vitreous fluid. does lifting too heavy weights causes retinal tear for high myopic. i'm highly myopic also astigmatism & have eye floaters & today i held too much heavy weight handbag for a few second. as i didn't knew it was so heavy?

: Floaters are common in severe myopism. Only do lightning and flashes occur with floaters could herald retinal detachment.

my question was misunderstood. does eye rubbing cause -0.5 cylinder power change in eye permanently ? i have this refractive error in right eye since few months. local opthalmologist said astigmatism could be caused by rubbing. will it go back to 0?

Interesting thought: But... every human on this planet rubs his or her eyes. That means there must be more to the story, which we are unaware of. Otherwise, if "eye rubbing" caused a cylinder change, then every human on this planet would have a cylinder change, right? So, the rest of the story is likely really important to know.

m19. 4 weeks ago started having slight double vision.both eyes. letters on tv slightly raisedlooks like ghost. also see rays of light. optometrist said i have astigmatism in one eye.causes? 20/20 vis.

Accepted Answer

Does double vision: Remain when on eye is closed? If so the either an astigmatism or surface eye dryness can be the cause. If  the double vision goes away when one eye. Is closed you will have to see an ophthalmologist to evaluate this.
