Accepted Answer

Not Usually: It is unusual for varicocele to lead to azospermia. Usually it affects sperm motility and or morphology. In general varicoleces are not usually repaired unless they are severe. When azospermia is present, it is important to look for hormonal and genetic causes as well as to make sure there is no obstruction present.

Varicocele: Varicocele swelling is generally worse after long periods on ones feet or lifting and exertion. Elevating the feet usually improves swelling and discomfort.

Not dangerous: If it's not bothering you and not enlarging, you can watch it on your own.  You'd be looking for changing testicular size or shape.

Possibly: This has been speculated to be the case in some pts. It is unclear as to the possibility but has not been conclusively proven to my knowledge.  Stated thus it has to do with temp differences. See your urologist for better advice

Leave it alone...: Varicocele is common in men up to 15% and more frequent on the left. Surgery is done for three conditions: symptomatic; being related with infertility + poor sperm quality; and associated with testicular atrophy in adolescents. Otherwise, do nothing.

Red and painful?: Most worrisome is infection- if the swelling is new, red, painful, with discharge from the wound, call your surgeon.  It can take 2 months for the varicocele to resolve because we don't remove the veins. The blood in the varicocele will eventually reroute to the large vessels in the thigh.

what happened to the spermatic vein when tied or cut off for varicoceles repair and where does the blood circulation shifted to which vein?

Spermatic Vein: Normally, there are enough collateral veins that "pick up the slack" after ligation of the main vein for varicocoele repair,  so there is no need to worry.

had hydolectomy 4 months ago. had varicocele surgery 6-7yrs ago. noticed a vein nesr incision that is slightly painful. did varicocele come back?!

Accepted Answer

Here are some...: The vein near incision should not connected with varicocele or hydrocele; both are way away from skin with no anatomical connection. So, the slight pain in incision may just represent lingering effect from wound healing process.  Note: occasionally,varicocele or hydrocele may recur, most related how the surgery is done. More?
