Humidifier yes : Humidification as well as oral fluids can loosen nasal secretions which may help certain cough.  A fan will not help.

Accepted Answer

Yes but: Any humidifier may help if your area has low humidity but seldom does much. I never recommend any Vicks or similar fragrance products in infancy because they are air pollution and often cause airway irritation.You might find it soothing, but you don't have a baby nose/airway.

Cough: Get a chest xray and if normal see a lung doctor to be sure theres no bronchitis or pneumonia

Cause??: You would probably benefit from seeing your family doctor so they may be able to tell you what is causing your cough.  If your cough is seasonal, you could have allergies.  If you have it after a big meal or certain times of day it could be acid reflux.  Fixing the cough is easier if we could find out the cause, instead of putting a band aid on the symptom.

Discomfort: It may help to reduce pain associated with the cough but would not be likely to solve the underlying problem.

Probably.: Cough may be worsened from the irritational effect on the respiratory tissues by heating the air in our homes at night; so, the moisturizing & soothing effect of a cool mist humidifier could prove useful. Hot vaporizers can be potentially dangerous by causing scald burns if accidentally tipped over by an unsuspecting toddler. Just another reason to prefer a cool mist humidifier. It's worth a try!

can i give a 15 month old anything to help her cough and congestion.  use vicks baby rub and a humidifier but cough keeps her up at night.

Toddler cough: There are not really any good cough medicines for this age group that both work and don't have really icky side effects. I have found that honey is sometimes helpful, and there are a few natural cough preparations that contain honey and zinc that you can buy. Remember though, no honey under one year of age. Otherwise, sounds like you are doing what you can with humidity and rub.

my 11month olds temp went away. he still  has a cough. doctor said he can only use salin drops and humidifier. when should i worry about cough?

Cough: You should always worry about a cough.  The questions is how worried.  If this is the aftermath of a mild viral infection (tracheitis or bronchitis) and the fever has resolved, a residual cough can linger for w couple of weeks in a child.  However, if fever recurs, or any signs of respiratory distress develop, see a doctor immediately.  In the meantime, do as your doctor advises.
