does a biopsied mole grow back?

Mole biopsy: It depends on the type of mole biopsied.  If your mole is raised and a shave biopsy was done the mole could grow back. Intradermal and compound nevi have a deep component so if the biopsy is a shave, the deeper component may grow back but this may take a long time.

two moles biopsied. one on chin shaved off, healed without a mark. a month later it has started to grow back a light pink-brown color. it's half it's original size. should i see my dr. again?

Dermatologists: always schedule follow up visits.

a change in a wart or mole in shape/growth/color are potentially serious warning signs

and, the dermatologist would essentially always have follow up visits even wtihout this.

i had a mole on back biopsied. dr said it was very very slightly atypical, so she wants to recheck in 6 mos. if it grows back, is this a bad sign?

IT IS NOT A BAD SIGN.
THE CHANCES ARE IT IS BENIGN, BUT YOUR DOCTOR WANTS TO BE CERTAIN.
I AM SURE SHE MEASURED IT, MAYBE TOOK A PHOTO.
DONT FRET ABOUT IT.

NO: Sometimes the pathologists diagnosing the tissue require consultations that maytake weeks. Straight forward diagnosis takes less time.

mole biopsied 3 months ago came back as a benign congenital mole. it is now starting to growing back in areas. is this a concern?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: This is likely is due to what we call 'recurrent nevus'.  In other words, the biopsy showed a benign mole but did not completely remove it.  It is now growing back.  If you are worried, i would see a dermatologist to have it completely removed.

Not necessarily: but it should be easy for the pathologist to examine the margins and determine whether the lesion was completely removed.

Yes: it is common for a mole to change  Sometimes just the irritation from the shave can make it come back dysplastic but there are many environment factors like sun exposure which can change it.

Mole removal: First of all, moles should always be biopsied when removed.
Often moles will regrow if the original mole was deeper below the skin and a shave removal was done.  I would have original dermatologist look at the area who removed it to make sure it is just pigment regrowth from an incompletely removed mole.

i recently had a mole removed and it healed up perfect.  the biopsy came back pos. for basil cell. what should i do now?

One : One option might be to have the biopsy material reviewed by another dermatopathologist . Requested outside opinions like this are not that unusual in difficult cases since there are many types of skin conditions that can mimic cancer yet not be cancer. If a determination is not possible, and the lesion is at the margin of resection, re-excision is prudent in the event this was a basal cell carcinoma. At the very least, close follow-up with your dermatologist is important to monitor this area (and the rest of your skin).

hello. biopsy and removal of mole on back this morning. i was fine but now bandaid is bloody. is it normal to bleed so randomly and late afterwards?

See below: It has been 16 hours since you wrote and bleeding should have stopped by now. It not you need to go the nearest emergency room. In general compression of the bleeding site is a good first measure to control bleeding. Bleeding can sometimes occur a few hours after a procedure.
