why do doctors make their patients wait months for an appointment and then push you out after seeing you for only 15 minutes?

Accepted Answer

In general, we don't: We doctors don't do that. The machine does that. The machine is the system that causes all these undesirable effects in delivering healthcare. There is enormous demand for healthcare (many people needing help), but a limited supply of doctors plus an unwillingness of society to move more funds into training and hiring more doctors, to better match the demand (actually, more complicated than that).

if a patient requests medical records from the office, does the doctor get notified?

Accepted Answer

Yes, No, and Maybe: Different doctors' offices handle medical records requests differently.  In a small office, the doctor usually knows about records requests.  In a large institution or large medical group, the doctor's may not know about records requests.  Be happy to pay $20-$40 for records requests, especially with a smaller practice where the doctor may be personally reviewing each request.

as a doctor, do you get frustrated with patients who show anxiety about their health, and see you often? also why/why not?

It is our job!: Of course we get frustrated. My rule is never show it. We are human and react as humans, but we must take care of people, and anxiety is a very real disorder. It makes it difficult to explain again and again and still not get through. I remind myself of how much suffering the patient feels and i continue to explain as much as possible. Psychiatric therapy and meds can help and should be pursued!

Accepted Answer

Several: He could already be full of patients and no longer taking new patients.   It could be an issue with your insurance provider.   The doctor may not accept patients from that insurance carrier.   Obamacare is another issue where many physicians may not take those types of patients.

: Yes, I think it makes sense to first start by checking in with a primary care doctor, such as a pediatrician or family practice doctor. Sleep disorders can underlie many concerning health problems. They might refer you to another doctor, such as a psychiatrist. 
Meanwhile, look up “sleep hygiene” and download an app called CBT-i. You can make a lot of changes/improvement on your own!

why don't doctors catch their patients' diseases and get sick all the time?

Immune Stimulation: Doctors do get sick.  However, you become immune after working in an area for awhile.
If you change locations you encounter new germs that you may not be resistant to.  
The third year of medical school when most young doctors go on rotations starts the process of educating the immune system.  With hand washing, masks, vaccines, sensible avoidance you can limit your exposure.

how does the doctor check to see when a patient can get off warfin?

Depends on…: Reason requiring anticoagulation. Some conditions like atrial fibrillation or mechanical heart valves require lifetime anticoagulation. Other conditions may no longer need blood thinner once the condition has resolved. Doc monitoring your pt & inr is best one to tell you when/if u will be able to discontinue coumadin (warfarin).

can you get hiv when getting a shot if the doc uses the same gloves that she used for a previous patient?

Low risk: Needles are never reused. Gloves are barriers to prevent contact with blood and other secretions. You are at very low risk to get HIV from the doctors gloves. Feel good!
