3-4 days: Most individuals with streptococcal pharyngitis usually appear to recover in 3-4 days. Cephalexin is an appropriate choice for this infection. If no improvement and you feel enlargement under the chin, I would be worried about tonsillopharyngeal cellulitis or abscess formation and would recommend to see the PCP.

Depends: Large tonsils are not on their own a problem. The question becomes whether there are any problems related to the tonsils. If there is any history of sleep disturbed breathing, sleep apnea, or chronic tonsil infections then they should be evaluated by a specialist. They may also send you for a sleep study if sleep is the main issue.

Is that a problem?: Large tonsils are not necessarily a problem.  Do they get inflamed a lot?  Do you get a lot of sore throats?  If so, they may be a problem and they might have to be removed.

Tonsils: Make some calls to ENT offices in your area. Results are same. Some variation in reported degree of operative bleeding and post-op pain. Healing time is same.

: "Large tonsils" do not cause a prolonged cough.  However, he could have developed an obstructive sleep apnea which constitutes an indication for tonsillectomy. Have him checked.

It sure can...: Palatine tonsillar enlargement can affect speech, giving it a 'nasal' quality.  It is believed that this is secondary to velopharyngeal incompetence.

The velopharyngeal mechanism is  responsible for directing the transmission of sound energy and air pressure in both the oral cavity and the nasal cavity.
When this mechanism is impaired, 'velopharyngeal  inadequacy' can develop.

Large tonsils: As long as he is healthy and the tonsils are not red or inflammed or have white spots (exudates) on them  - I would NOT be too concerned.   Tonsils serve as "filters" just like other lymph nodes in the body - to trap dead and dying white blood cells typically increased during infections  -  thats the swollen glands  that we see during sore throats, and other infections.  I would not be worried.

my 4 years olds uvula deviates to the right when she says 'ah'.  she has large tonsils and the uvula lays on her tonsil when she says 'ah' also?

Uvula: As long as your child is otherwise healthy I would not worry at all.  If swallowing is fine and sleeping is restful, I cannot imagine there being any problems.
