However, you should read the indications &amp; instructions for any product and consult your Pediatrician if you feel something more serious could be going on.

They don't work. : Babies swallow air when crying &amp; bottle-feeding. Till ~ 6 weeks, their intestinal smooth muscle does not coordinate propulsion of  liquid &amp; air. Use the "football hold". Put baby on your forearm, head at your elbow,face down. Press your palm against his tummy, flex his hips, encircle one leg with your fingers &amp; roll him gently against your chest. Tilt head up to burp, tush up to pass gas.

By : By the date of this post about 4 days has gone by, so hopefully you have made contact with the doctor and your baby is better by now. For the future, and for others reading this post, if your baby seems very irritable and uncomfortable, and your instinct tells you that something is wrong you should contact your doctor. A phone call to the doctor's office after hours will put you through to a nurse or on call doctor. They will ask you a series of questions and advise you on the next best course of action (er visit or next day doctor's appointment).

Wide range: It is safe. There are plenty different ones - mylicon, gripe water etc. There is no one thing that is " the best". Different medicines work for different babies. You will have to try and see.

Multiple factors: Infants naturally produce gas as part of the digestive process.  Gas is a natural byproduct of both breast milk and formula.  Breastfed babies may also produce more gas according to what is in mom's diet.  Legumes, some vegetables and sometimes dairy products may lead to increased gas in your baby.  Babies also get gas from swallowing air during feeding. This is why burping is important.

Simethicone: Over the counter simethicone drops (mylicon or infant gas drops). Are perfectly safe. The dose is 0.3 ml every 3 hrs as needed. If you are breast feeding take a look at your diet. Infant colic: Prevacid (lansoprazole) is not known to cause gas.  It is used to reduce acid and thus treat reflux to prevent the esophagus from getting inflamed.  It is normally given to children more than 1 years old but is commonly used for newborns.  If you are right, i would suggest simply using  half the dose for a day or so and see if the "gas" is gone.  If not, stay on the Prevacid (lansoprazole) and change your infant's diet.
