Wisdom teeth and ear: There can be a concern if the wisdom teeth are partially erupted  and increased potential infections.  This could affect the eustacian tubes located in the throat, coming from the inner ear. Usually, infected wisdom teeth, when they cause problems, are felt more by the tmj, about 1/2 inch in front of the ear. Best to check with dentist and md to see if there is infection and how to treat it.

Confusing setting: It is odd that you had an ear infection so soon after extraction, but possible. The areas are physically separate &amp; do not communicate, so there is no reason the ear issue would contaminate the sockets. One question I have if whether you have an ear infection at all. The nerves in that part of the head can give you acute or persistent ear pain from irritation in the jaw.

Dry socket: There is no relationship between an ear infection and a getting a dry socket following a tooth extraction. Infections in the ear do not spread to your mouth. You should be fine from a dental standpoint.

Wisdom tooth : See your dentist or medical doctor or ENT specialist. You may still have an infection either related or unrelated to the infected wisdom teeth.
If the wisdom teeth were removed, return to the oral surgeon for an examination.

Blood check: It is unclear whether your immune system has been suppressed or not, but you should see your physician to check your white blood cell count see if it is because systemic or just a local factor, like wisdom teeth infection.

can horizontally impacted wisdom teeth cause ear aches and loss of hearing?

Yes and (no?): Impacted teeth may cause referred pain, especially if there is inflammation or infection associated with them.  I have never heard of nor believe that impacted lower wisdom teeth (and probably upper impacted wisdom teeth) can cause loss of hearing.  I recommend that you discuss the removal of the wisdom teeth with an oral surgeon and your hearing loss with an ENT specialist.

i got my 2 bottom impacted wisdom teeth out 4 days ago. a new soreness just started in my gums going up towards my ears that is painful and new. help!

Dry Socket,: The most common complication  after an extraction , dry socket, occurs when the blood clot does not form well resulting in pain which can radiate to other parts of the head snd neck. The possibility of tooth  or bone spicules remnants not allowing proper healing. Must be considered. Call your dentist who performed extraction ASAP.

Inflamation: It is not uncommon to have some ear soreness after wisdom teeth extraction. It most likely due to muscle and TMJ strain during the procedure. 800mg of Ibuprofen every 8 hrs should be enough. It may last 3-4 days before it gets better. Alternatively, if the discomfort is unbearable, some steroids can be prescribed. Try to have a soft  diet and to chew no gum until it gets better.

is it possible for a wisdom tooth extraction to cause chronic ear infections?

Accepted Answer

No: Chronic ear infections are usually due to blocked eustachian tubes.  There is no connection between the two.
