OTC and DDS!: All the otc pain medications that you can take on your own have about equal onset of relief. Take what works best for you- advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) or what you would normally take for a headache. However, the best and quickest relief will be obtained by seeing a dentist to determine the cause of the pain and start treatment. Thing can go downhill quickly, so don't delay!

Other way around: Theinfected tooth causes the abscess.  There are no pills, poultices, or snake oil that will cure. Tooth requires root canal Rx/crown or extraction/implant/crown, possibly supplemented by antibiotics. In other words, you need a Dentist. OTC NSAIDs (exactly as per package directions) and cold compresses may help take edge off until you get to a Dentist.

See a dentist ASAP: If you have a toothache, you may have a cavity, wisdom teeth or advanced gum disease. A tooth pain won't go away without treatment and the infection may spread to your jaw, cheeks, sinus and to other areas of your head and neck. You can use NSAID OTC or Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain control. See a dentist ASAP for assessment.

Get 2nd opinion: Just because nothing was seen on that X-Ray,does not mean you may not have a tooth problem! See an Endodontist for a thorough exam of the area,including new radiographs at different angles and pulp testing of the sore tooth!

Red Bull: i see not contraindication to drinking Red Bull (yuck) in moderation with niflamol an anti-inflammatory and Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate).

Yes, or Urgent Care: Please get seen today at either an Urgent Care or ER.  You have a serious infection that will not get better without treatment.
