Do you want to?: "Diverticulitis flare-up" could mean anything. As I don't know for sure what symptoms you ARE experiencing (other than NO fever), I'm unsure how to advise you. If (minor) symptoms permit, playing hockey isn't contraindicated; however, any injury to abdomen may make things worse. Is that risk acceptable to u?

Common.: A low grade temperature (high 99s to 100s) is common with diverticulitis.  Usually people have left lower abdominal pain (70% of people).  It is sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting (20-60%), constipation (50%), or diarrhea (25-35%).   However, if you have no fever, but have all the other symptoms, see your doctor, because you can still have diverticulitis without a temperature! cheers!

Yes some times: Most of the time acute diverticulitis with have symptoms, may not show symptoms when a small area  involved with mild infection or when immunity is suppressed  for what ever the reason.

recently recovered from diverticulitis 2 weeks ago but since getting it 5 weeks ago everyday starting at 12pm i start running an elev temp of 99-99.8 until about 8:30pm then it goes back to normal without any fever reducers. what could cause this?

: This might not be abnormal. Perhaps you don't have much previous experience measuring your temperature several times a day, but it is normal to have temperatures in this range in the afternoon and evening. 98.6F is not the top of the normal range, but the average over a day. Everyone's temperature tends to be higher in the afternoon and evening. But check with your doctor if you remain uncertain.

i have a flare of diverticulitis and been running a fever of 100.4 at most. my temp is now 99.4 degrees. its been staying lower without meds and pain is better . is that a positive sign? i been to doc recently but not for this. should i go ?

: Recent study showed that most mild to moderate cases of diverticulitis are self limited, no definite need for antibiotic treatment. If symptoms have improved you are safe.

is it possible to have appendicitis or diverticulitis with mild pain that comes and goes? no fever, and no intense  pain when pushed on?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes, you can have mild versions of both but this is pretty uncommon.  There are other diagnoses that can cause similar symptoms in a young woman including ovarian cysts, pregnancy, endometriosis, and irritable bowel syndrome.  See you doctor for a full evaluation.

Probably not: If you don't have abdominal pain (usually on the left side), fever and body aches are not likely due to diverticulitis. But if in doubt, get in touch with the doctor who cares for your diverticulitis.

i think i am having an attack of diverticulitis.  should i go to the emergency room? i am having sharp pains in my stomach that get worse when i lie down.  i have had diverticulitis twice before (6 and 8 years ago)  i also have a fever off 99.2.

Yes, : Yes, whenever you have abdominal pain with a fever you must be seen as an emergency, particularly as you have a past medical history of diverticulitis.  You should also establish a close relationship with a primary care physician so that in the future you can be evaluated early in the course of your illness and started on appropriate medication for possible diverticulitis.  As you have pain and fever and your past medical history you must be seen as an emergency.

Unlikely: I'm assuming you mean right lower quadrant pain.  With no fever and no WBC elevation, it's unlikely that you have diverticulitis or appendicitis.  HOWEVER, they are both still possibilities.  Diverticulitis would be especially unusually on the right side with your age.  I would bet on a colitis, constipation or an ovarian cyst before appendicitis.  But this is still a guess.
