To,observe: Likely benign post inflammatory granulomas and will calcify over time.
Regular cts for a few years will establish this.

. Prior exposure ? Histoplasmosis , farming, digging etc

CT scan: Proper interpretation of CT or "cat scan" results is a tricky proposition and requires a physician to clinically correlate with multiple factors.   The findings above may simply represent excessive mucus or possibly an infection.  An effusion means there is some type of fluid in or around the lungs.

how is subsegmental atelectasis of the lingula treated?

Atelectasis is the : accumulation of mucus in a part of the lung, resulting in  a collapse of the lung segment.  May also be caused by a growth or infection .  Treating the underlying cause  and  breathing exercises  as well as  mucolytics,   oral hydration  and chest physiotherapy  can relieve this
condition.  In advanced cases, therapeutic bronchoscopy is helpful.

my husband has some minor linear atelectasis in the left lingula with slight dependant atelectasis at the lung base also mild right hilar lymphadenop?

Needs evaluation: The presence of linear opacities with hilar adenopathy can be due to several acute or chronic conditions such as histoplasmosis, atypical mycobacterial infections, sarcoidosis, or rarely malignancy etc. Your husband should immediately see a lung specialist for a complete evaluation to determine the underlying cause, which will help determine appropriate course of treatment.

i had bilateral breast cancer and ct with rt. now ct scan showed atelectasis or infiltration in the right middle and left lingula. er doc said it's ok?

Atelectasis: There are a number of reasons for atelectasis (collapse alveoli or air sacs) or infiltration (areas of inflammation) in the lung: infection, mucus plugging, or shallow breathing. Though the cause is most likely unrelated to your cancer, lung cancers or recurrent breast may sometimes appear as infiltration.  Best thing to do is to schedule a follow-up visit with your oncologist for evaluation.

have a chronic urge to cough 2 years. lung ct normal except for subsegmental atelectasis in right middle lobe and lingula. pft normal except for isolated reduced fef75 which was (70% predicted value). albuterol not helpful. what next steps, ideas?

: As opposed to linear atelectasis which is caused by diminished inspiration, subsegmental atelectasis is often caused by some obstruction in the airway leading th that segment of the lung. In this setting, bronchoscopic examination is frequently advised to determine the presence&amp; cause of obstruction. If you haven't consulted a pulmonologist, do so. A thoracic surgeon would be another specialist

Atelectasis: Atelectasis itself is not much of a concern. It is a medical term that means your lung/airspaces were not fully inflated during the time the CT scan was taken. It can show up in many disease states (more than just asthma) but it can show up incidentally in healthy individuals that have no symptoms. Not usually: Atelectasis alone would most often not require hosptializatoin . Atelectasis is a symptom/sign of many types of lung diseases/illnesses.  The other parts of the illness may be more serious than the atelectasis, such as trouble breathing , hypoxia (low oxygen), cardiac complications, etc.

A mistaken report: Atelectasis is  airless lung tissue. It looks the same as pneumonia. The term is not used to describe a renal condition.

Different: Bronchiectasis is a dilated bronchus or airway. Atelectasis is an area of the lung that has decreased in volume because it doesn't have the usual amount of air in it.
