Atelectasis is the : accumulation of mucus in a part of the lung, resulting in a collapse of the lung segment. May also be caused by a growth or infection . Treating the underlying cause and breathing exercises as well as mucolytics, oral hydration and chest physiotherapy can relieve this condition. In advanced cases, therapeutic bronchoscopy is helpful.

Collapse: This refers to some collapsing of the lingula which is a small lobe of the Left lung. The partial collapse has a few possible causes such as infection or an obstruction of a bronchial Tube leading to the lingula. Your physician can best advise you as he/she knows your case and,if deemed advisable, will consult a pulmonologist.
