Partial vs Total: A partial hysterectomy typically refers to removal of the uterus and cervix only. A total hysterectomy typically refers to removal of uterus, cervix and ovaries.  However, that being said, there are now many hysterectomies where the cervix is being left. This is referred to as a supracervical hysterectomy.

What is removed: The hyster is the uterus.  Ectomy means to cut out.  So hysterectomy is the cutting out of the uterus.  Female castration is the removal of the ovaries. The ovaries are the oophors, so removal of the ovaries is an oophorectomy. Technically a full hysterectomy would be the removal of the entire uterus, however many people believe that full hysterectomy implies removal of the uterus and the ovaries.

This is misunderstoo: Tah means removal of the uterus and cervix, partial means removal of the uterus and leave the cervix. If you have the uterus, cervix and ovaries removed the proper name for this procedure is total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo- oophorectomy.

Bleeding vs menstrat: If partial hysterectomy should not have menstruation. Bleeding could be other medical problems and this needs to be ab evaluation. You need to see the physician
