what is difference between acitrom and warfarin?i am taking 2.5mg of acitrom and now i am planning to shift towa?rfarin 2.5mg.does it make any effect?

Similar but not same: Both Acitrom and Warfarin act in the same way,  by blocking the effect of Vitamin K so you make less clotting factors.  The main difference is how long the medication says in your body after taking a dose.  Warfarin stays about 3 times longer. With both medications you need to check your blood test (INR or prothrombin time) regularly to make sure you are taking the right dose.

hi.my husband get stroke when on warfarin..so doctors shifted him on acitrom.i am not getting it in guyana,what is the best replacement for acitrome?

Acitrom is coumarin: Acitrom (acenocoumarol) is similar to Warfarin (coumadin) in that both are in the coumarin class of drugs &amp; work essentially the same way. It's hard to advise you since most docs won't know what drugs are available in Guyana. Use HealthTap Prime to help figure that out. Newer drugs like Rivaroxaban work differently but are equally effective. Oddly, coumadin comes from tonka tree (native to Guyana)

Worrisome: Although you do not provide information as to why the warfarin was originally started, assuming this was to deal with either a cardiac arrhythmia or distant embolism risk, the inr of 1.1 was too low, and therefore, protection was in fact suboptimal.  Appears she did suffer stroke at time, and now needs  speech therapy.  However, you need to discuss what the best preventative rx for future.

This could be a : Problem. Clove contains eugenol which can slow blood clotting. Clove should be stopped at least 2 weeks before surgeries to reduce bleeding risk. It may be contraindicated with some bleeding disorders. There is potential for bleeding / bruising if mixed with an anticoagulant or anti-platelet medication.  Please don't begin this garlic regimen without first discussing with your physician.

Many: Warfarin is a vitamin k antagonist and is given in pill form and is much cheaper, requires constant checking levels in the blood ( pt-inr). Lovenox (enoxaparin) is a low molecular sintetic heparin, injectable once or twice a day subcutaneously, much more expensive buy does not requiere to check the levels in the blood tests. Warfarin has to be stopped 3 to 5 days before surgery, Lovenox (enoxaparin) only 36 hrs.

Cost vs safety: In patient with atrial fibrillation there is an increase risk of atrial clot formation. These clots can travel to the brain and lungs resulting in stroke and pulmonary embolism, both possibly life threatening. Pradaxa and warfarin both reduce this risk directly. Pradaxa is newer, may be safer, easier to manage and much more expensive. Aspirin is less effective.

my inr suddenly jumped to 5.3 on a stable dose of warfarin.  the only difference is i stopped drinking soda to drinking koolaid with real sugar?
