Accepted Answer

Not abnormal: It may take a period of 4-8 weeks, and the pain is persistent for the entire period of healing. If concerned, see your oral surgeon/dentist to rule out any other oral pathology. Take care.

no dry socket, but dr put medpack in anyway, told to leave it for 4 days. is it normal to start coming out? i have been avoiding area completely.

Normal: yes it is normal as the socket heals,it pushes the pack out of the socket.
Maintain good oral hygiene and follow your dentists post operative instructions ,take your meds. If any was prescribed to you ,and all should be fine.

Yes: It is meant to fall out with time.  If you are bleeding or having a problem, call the dentist or oral surgeon who performed or discuss with the doctor on call.  Otherwise, observe and it should be okay.  Do not hesitate to call or be seen.  Socket to me!

just had medicine  put in a dry socket to take the pain away the novacaine is wearing off and i'm starting to feel some pain.  is this normal?

Yes: Pain with dry sockets is normal, even with medication.

had dry socket they packed it with medicine on the 17th. still have white stuff showing and hurts to touch. is this normal? how long to heal?

Just a thought: but it sounds like you may have an infection!! Re-check your situation again with your Dentist/Oral Surgeon!

Dry Socket Pain.: Dry sockets can be very painful, lasting a few weeks.  Severe headaches can happen as well.  You should contact the doctor that did the extractions and hopefully have the areas packed to get some relief, otherwise you will be trying to kill the pain with pain meds that are likely not to help too much.  Once healed, you should be fine, but it can take some time.

should there be puss coming from the dry socket dressing? and is it normal for it to bleed and the dressing still be there 7 days later.

Speak with dentist: Purulent exudate, if evident is a sign of infection. See the dentist or oral surgeon immediately for an evaluation. Was an antibiotic given and not followed through? The dentist that performed the extraction will be able to advise you.

It is normal: Tooth extraction is a surgical procedure and is not completely risk-free. Pain, swelling, bad breath and infection following surgery is usually at its worst 24 – 48 hours after surgery. After that it should subside more and more every day and after 7 days stop. See your dentist or an oral surgeon for post-op appointment and treatment. Take care.

i wont smoke, but how long till i know ive avoided dry socket, it i do end up doing it, and also i hate white stuff around my right gum is that normal?

Good for you: Great reason to quit smoking entirely.  Or you can resume smoking in a week or two if you want lung/tongue/throat/larynx/gum/lip/jaw cancer, leathery skin, nicotine stained fingers, stroke, heart attack, and so money other gruesome ways to die.  As to "white stuff," probably OK but ask your Surgeon to take a look.

healing dry socket: A dry socket happens when the clot in the extraction site
breaks down leaving exposed bone.
The dry socket paste which is only used for that purpose causes the bone to start healing.
If
there is no more pain as there was before the dry socket paste was applied, it is healing.
Any dead bone in the area will resorb, or flake off, or disappear.
Sounds like you are thru the woods.
