my 10 month old is taking liquid antibiotic to treat an ear infection and upper respiratory infection. its day 3, and hes developed an awful, painful, heart breaking diaper rash. how can i treat this? should i stop the antibiotic?

:  This often results when yeast, which live in the intestines, grow in higher numbers when normal gut bacteria are killed by the antibiotic. Stopping the antibiotic will just allow the ear infection to continue &amp; not fix the problem. Contact his doc, discuss the rash. If he agrees he can call in an antifungal cream to help the rash. Also consider giving probiotics to help the intestines get balance

See answer: Zinc oxide application may take some time to help. Diaper free time also helps. U may need to get an antifungal cream    ( now a days available over the counter) like clotrimazole( LOTRIMIN) and try that. If these fail u shd see a pediatrician or a dermatologist and get a proper diagnosis to get proper treatment.

It can: Some children seem to change their saliva when teething (probably to help the tooth pop through the gums) which can be quite irritating and can cause a rash around the lips, and on the other end, diaper rash as well as green diarrhea. Diaper rashes can also be due to candida (yeast). See your doctor to check it out.

Diaper rashes, types: Children are prone to rashes in the diaper region as a result of illness, recent antibiotic use, frequent diarrhea or chronic moisture under the diaper or underwear. There are different types of rashes, such as irritant rash, fungal infection or bacterial infection.  Creams like Desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) or A&amp;D ointment should help.  See your doctor if symptoms persist or worsen.

Well, you could have: Contaminated the cream you're using, or it could be a yeast infection. Zinc oxide paste coats raw, weepy areas very well. Use disposable gloves when removing & applying  the paste, to avoid getting staph from your hands onto skin or mucous membranes that are cracked or open. See her pediatrician. Always wipe front-to-back when cleaning urine & stool.

Likely not: If your child tolerates the formula well for feeding, then it is unlikely to cause a rash if spilled on the skin. However, it is possible to develop a contact dermatitis (or irritant rash) whenever something touches the skin - but very unlikely.

Diapers: I have 2 kids and i found that they did better with pampers and huggies vs. The store brands, as far as diaper rash goes.  It's better to spend a little extra money...Pampers and huggies are better for the baby's skin and they also hold more, so that you have to deal with fewer "blow outs."
diaper wipes can also cause a diaper rash, so water and soft paper towels are a good alternative.

Diaper rash: if the diaper rash is severe enough, it can cause bleeding. Try a diaper rash cream with a lot of zinc oxide and see. If still blood, see your pediatrician
