im having balloon dilation for blocked eustachian tubes. does this have a high success rate? could there be any complications?

: By UPTODATE: in a 2016 randomized trial of 323 adult patients with obstructive Eustachian tube dysfunction, more patients treated with Balloon dilation of the Eustachian tube plus medical therapy demonstrated normal tympanograms than those treated with medical therapy alone (54 versus 14 percent); these results were sustained at 52 weeks.

is uterine dilation and curretege safe, i'm scared of complications, my doctor mentioned when discussing it, perforation, and now i'm very worried.

D &amp; C is "safe": Like any other surgical procedure D &amp; C has risks and complications. Because the procedure is done "blindly" then uterine perforation is always a infrequent possibility in the hands of an experienced GYN surgeon. This fact should not deter you from electing the procedure as it is performed very frequently for a number of indications.

what is it like to have curette done for having no periods?

Like going to sleep: I assume you are asking about a Dilation and Curettage?  There are different ways to do it; however, a common way is for you to go to the operating room and be given sedation or anesthesia so you don't have any pain.  Most of the time, you wake up with no memory of the procedure.  You may have some cramping and spotting after the procedure.  Best wishes!

i had a miscarriage and had a suction curette done after (end june). after i exercise i bleed, is that something to be worried about?

Have checkup: While the bleeding can be obviously  be attention getting and a nuisance, it is not necessarily a major problem.  That being said, it would be best to follow up with whichever physician has been providing your OB/GYN care....you do want to make sure  the problem is resolved as soon as possible.

Accepted Answer

Bleeding: Depends on the timing of the brown discharge.  Midcycle or ovulatory bleeding can occur that way.  The timing is middle of the cycle or about 14 days before a normal period.  It is normal for blood, especially when it breaks down and is brown, to have somewhat of an odor.

i have a cervical polyp, my doctor suggested that whilst having it removed i should have a curette all under a general anesthetic. why a curette?

Other polyps?: If your dr. Recommends a cervical polyp removal on the or, it is relatively standard to assess the uterine lining with a tissue sampling  - to evaluate other abnormalities and possible polyp removal.   However, if a pelvic ultrasound and in office endometrial biopsy are normal, and you have no abnormal bleeding and the polyp can be removed in office, key question is - why hospital and gen. Anesth?

could the doctor's use of a curette have injured my baby's ear during ear cleaning?

Wall scratch: Ear wax removal has been simplified over the past decades with the introduction of softer plastic curettes (rather than metal loops). Even with this change, the wiggly infant is prone to scratches in the wall during the process, the wax is only made in the outer half of the canal, so the dr seldom needs to go deep unless q tips have pushed the wax deeper. The scratches heal quickly without problems.

Accepted Answer

Yes: It can with some chronic estrogen stimulation or just lack of ovulation. That is a long time without a period for no reason so may be best to get a full evaluation and make sure there is no scar tissue that formed from the d;c.

had persistent bleeding from ears after nurse removed wax with curette. both ear canals have been blocked for 2 days. saw family md - noted swelling, couldn't see ear drum, referred me to ent. could take weeks to get appt. any self-help can i do now?

Accepted Answer

: Is there blood in the ear canal or do you still have impacted ear wax? Do you have any signs/symptoms of ear infection? If not, you could try mineral oil ear drops to your ear canals-this will soften whatever is blocking the ear canal (assuming it is either blood or ear wax-ask your family practice doc). Your family practice doc can prescribe this to use until ENT sees you, assuming no infection.
