Since: the neuromyelitis in Devic's disease usually affects the OPTIC NERVES the effect on life expectancy is minimal!
Hopefully TREATMENT will improve the QUALITY of life (not just the QUANTITY.  New treatments for MS and ALS (Lou gehrig's disease) are "in the works!!!"

Interesting question: That's an interesting question. The "bubble boy" had a disease called Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID). It's not a single disease, but a host of similar ones--so a life expectancy can't really be estimated. HOWEVER, although kids with SCID used to have to live their lives in a sterile environment, many kids today can actually be CURED with a bone marrow transplant, if done early enough.

3 to 5 years: Als, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is better known as lou gehrig's disease. It is a disease of motor neurons that causes progressive muscle weakness and is uniformly fatal. The median time from the first symptom of weakness to the patient's passing is about 4 years.

Yes it does: Hi. I'm so sorry. Cushing's is a very difficult disease, and surgery is all too often not curative. The post surgical options include: 1) medical; a) mifepristone, a cortisol receptor antagonist, b) pasireotide, a somatostatin analog that reduces tumor size and ACTH secretion, c) keotoconazole, a steroidogenesis inhibitor that blocks cortisol synthesis, and 2) radiation of pituitary (gamma knife)

i have kidney amyloidosis. if its primary, what would be the life expectancy? if its secondary to other diseases, what would it be then? or overall in average whats the life expectancy of someone with kidney amyloidosis?

: Primary amyloidosis (AL amyloidosis) has much poorer prognosis, especially with cardiac involvement.
One study reported a median survival of less than one year in a group of patients with AL amyloidosis. All patients I took care died in the first year.
Prognosis is very poor with kidney amyloidosis which requires dialysis; of course better if you have secondary type + kidney transplant.

Huntington's : Huntington's disease or chorea is an inherited disorder that usually appears in mid-life. It is referred to as autosomal dominant disorder; that is if a parent has it there is a 50/50 chance a child will inherit it. A famous person who had this movement disorder was woody guthrie, a folk singer who was born in 1912 and died in 1967. His son arlo, also a folk singer did not inherit the gene and is in his 60's ( i think).
If there is a history in your family, you may wish to be tested.Some people from affected families prefer not to be tested. At this time there is no cure available. I think you would benefit from talking to your family about your worries.

Many factors: Depends on alot of factors , childs stage 4 without a transplant prob has two years. But it depends on ascites , increasing lft's, dt, s . Urea levels, should be eval. By a GI doctor.

About 8 years: Alzheimer's disease progresses differently in different people but the duration on the average is 8 years from diagnosis to death. Of course, if somebody is diagnosed late in life the survival is shorter.
