Not to worry: Often times the medications used during intravenous sedation for wisdom teeth extraction actually are the same medications that can be used to treat active seisures.  Your pcp and oral surgeon should work together to determine the safest location for the surgery to be performed.

No: Dental extractions are so routine that when a death results, the event receives outsized coverage in the media.
The risk of death from out-patient oral surgery under anesthesia is close to 1:1, 000, 000.

Normal consequences: There are cautions and complications to any surgery.  Death would be a very rare event as a result of having wisdom teeth removed.  The oral surgeons are highly skilled professionals with years of training in surgical techniques, sedations, and life-saving procedures.  Once they are aware of the numerous medical condition, they will be able to safely provide the patient with proper care.

Wisdom teeth removal: Absolutely not.  If you have been recommended to have the teeth removed due to infection, you are better off having the surgery done than putting it off.  If you are on a medication such a warfarin or coumadin, then there could possibly be a bleeding issue.  Your surgeon or dentist will be sure there is not a bleeding issue.

Risks: Personally, I have never heard of any death related to the extraction of a wisdom tooth. There is a greater risk driving in a car or walking across the street.

No: Most people do have wisdom teeth, some people have two or three, but not all four and some people may not have any.  Some people can have extra sets of them!

Accepted Answer

Start at about 15: Wisdom teeth eruption can vary on ages, most likely around 15 years old.  Whether the wisdom teeth erupt properly is another matter.  The teeth can no erupt at all (completely impacted- in bone, bone and tissue;) partially impacted- part way through the tissue or fully erupt.  Many people are born these days without wisdom teeth.  Should have your dentist monitor as you get to this age.

Sure...it Could: Usually, it does not cause much bother though.  But, if you have severely impacted wisdom teeth that are completely unerupted, it will be a bit more difficult to ext them.  Most normally, the vast majority of my patients who have wisdom teeth taken out, complain of soreness, not pain, for 2-3 days at a level of about 1-3, on a scale of 0-10 with 10 being worst pain possible.

Approx. 9 years old: Around age 9, wisdom teeth start to form inside the bone of the upper and lower jaws (maxilla and mandible.) .The jaw have a lot more growing to do, so they are not yet at their full density.

Accepted Answer

Depends: They can start to erupt into your mouth at a very early age.  I have taken wisdom teeth out on a 13 year old girl before, but the average is late teens.
