hello, for the past week the top part of my hand between the thumb and index finger has been incredibly itchy, there is no rash or dry skin or bumps?

Itchy: Two choices:
1: Go to the nearest Pharmacy and they are very likely to recommend some cream or similar. Cost is low.
2: If you don't like that idea please go to the nearest Emergency facility. Not my first choice.

i touched a wet trash can and i have small cuts under two of my nails and dry skin not sure if it was some one bodily fluids alot or not and i didnt immediately wash my hands or had no hand sanitizer on me i washed them 5 hours later am i at risk?:0?

: Superficial skin infections are always possible and that’s why keeping wounds covered until healed may be protective. Infections, such as HIV or hepatitis B and/or C are not possible in above mentioned scenario.

my boyfriend is getting dry skin patches that are very red on his hand. what could this be from?

Accepted Answer

Eczema: There are a few considerations, but eczema would be one that is fairly common.  Dry skin itself is also common and can sometimes cause dry patches.  Try using a non-perfumed cream or ointment right after showering while the skin is still damp, as well as 2-3 other times a day. If still a problem he should see his doctor.

Yes: Most hand sanitiziers have alcohol in them which can dry out your hands, make sure to find one without it in the ingredients.

DRY SKIN FEET & HAND: Try them all. Eucerin, neutrogena, aveeno, (oatmeal) cerave, curel, and a dozen other companies make them there is no best. Everyone is different. What's good for you may not be good for your friends. Good luck!

Difficult to dx: itching without seeing the skin.  Is there a rash?  Taking benadryl (diphenhydramine) by mouth may help with itching if it is due to an allergic reaction, but may not solve the problem.  Be careful, benadryl (diphenhydramine) may cause drowsiness. Consider an virtual visit or inbox consult with a picture to help with diagnosis and/or recommendations.

possible infection from dog saliva onto broken dry skin on my hand. will watch for symptoms. can i pass p. multocida infection onto others?

Maybe: If you had contact of dog saliva on broken skin, you have a small but real risk of infection. You should see a doctor and possibly get started on oral antibiotics. The infection is not normally contagious unless another person has physical contact with pus from a wound.

i need a good 24 hr hand cream! i'm n doors most of the time. i do tend to wash my hands a lot plus i have hypothyroidism could this cause dry skin?

Many choices: The best one that I have found is called o'keeffes working hands, which leaves a non-greasy moisturizing film when applied once or twice a day.  Many others, from vaseline intensive care, curel, store brands, etc, can all work.

: Eczema is not caused by type of skin but dry skin can facilitate entry of trigger factor much easily, also eczema causes dry, chafed skin hence many people associate dry skin with eczema. Genetic predisposition and presence of triggering factors like nickel metal, soaps, thickening material used in shampoo, cleaning solution, neomycin, bacttoban , can cause eczema. Hope it helps.

my 4 year old has had wrinkly palms of hand and fingers for a week. not dry skin. lotion doesn't help. should be see a doc?

Wrinkly palms.: Some possibilities are excess exposure to water, some antibiotics, or genetic. Recommend consultation with the Pediatrician.
