Best to see dentist: If it is "all of the sudden", make sure the brown spot is not from popcorn skin stuck on tooth. Otherwise, it may be from a reaction with food particles on the surface of the tooth. If it is a superficial stain, a regular hygiene cleaning may be all you need. If they are cavities that were uncovered when calculus (tartar) came off suddenly, and now that you see them, you need dentist's help.

Neonatal line: Thin brown line may be neonatal line, a darker of the day you were born.  Brown spots, brown line, may also be from taking tetracycline, or an illness, or a systemic problem, while the teeth were forming.  Did you ask the Dentist about the brown spots/lines?  that's the best person to ask.  Give your Dentist a call.

See your dentist : Make an appointment with a pediatric dentist for an examination. The pits and spots may have been caused by a viral infection during the time the teeth were being formed. The important thing is to find if the first teeth and the all important second teeth appear to be developing normally.

He may be getting some staining in the little pits and grooves on the biting surfaces of his teeth. Two is about the time to consiter taking him to the dentist, so have his new dentist take a look and let you know what it is.

Yes, : Yes, i would have him evaluated by a pediatric dentist.  The brown spots can may be staining on the surface of the teeth which can be removed by a dental prophylaxis (cleaning).  We see this quite often.  Frequently, it is caused by the iron present in vitamins with fluoride.

Calculus ?: If the spots are behind your front teeth then it is likely calculus formations. See your Dentist for evaluation and your hygienist for professional cleaning. Ask for strategies to help prevent the calculus (tartar) buildup in the future. Some form it much faster than others. If not calculus, then can be demineralization/decay. Same plan. Good Luck.
