Possible infection: You need to have it evaluated to see if she needs antibiotics. Hard to tell without visualization.

Resolution: Following lip trauma, it may take some time to resolve  Place a cool compress on the area and allow healing time.

For what reason ?: And is the ointment made for intraoral use? Is the wound infected? See your physician if there is a problem with the healing.. The infection would not be on the surface, but in the deeper tissues.

Wound: face has very good healing . superficial wounds should heal with in a week although the scarring will take time to get less noticeable ( months).stitches on the skin come out on the day 7. Deep sutures are absorbable and stay in for couple of months ( you don't need to worry about them) before dissolving.

Inflammation: Inflammation secondary to the trauma, should go away. Give it time unless there is pus and extreme swelling like an infection then you need attention see a doctor.

Scars &amp; VitaminE: First ask your doctor about scarring.  AFTER the wound has COMPLETELY healed you and use Vitamin E.  Life holds no guarantees as we know, but vitamin E oil placed directly on the scar regularly can help to fade or remove the scar.  You can get a bottle of it in the drug store.  It's inexpensive and worth a try; just be patient. Peace and good health.

Injury: The swelling will resolve in 2-3 days or even earlier. The wound will heal in 5-7 days. Lips, face is richly supplied with blood, for this healing is faster- unless there is infection. 
You said no stitches required, means you visited er?
Keep your mouth clean, you can clean the wound with water or hydrogen peroxide.

Is the cut lined up?: As long as there's not infection and the edges of the wound line up then there's a good chance that it will heal with less scarring.  If any doubt best to get a doctor or nurse to check it.

Maybe/not: If the wound gapes it may need a stitch or 2 but most of that size that don't do not. They generally need to be cleaned &amp; monitored for swelling or drainage that could indicate infection. Most will seal over in a few days &amp; heal without incident.
