No: A common cause is osteoarthritis which is a wear and tear phenomenon seen in older people but not in your age group. Your symptoms could be due to other types of arthritis, autoimmune disease, poor pillows, poor mattress,etc. Once you're up and about you are probably ok and this would point away from inflammatory conditions. A physician or rheumatologist could evaluate and advise you.

Cervical radiculopat: I had the same problem and ended up with surgery. The involvement of nerves in spinal conditions are not seen by xr but rather by mri. The degree of compression is not equal to symptoms usually. Have it evaluated, your doctor can order MRI if he feels it is needed. Not all will need surgery and pt may help but that is after proper evaluation.

Lower back strain: One of the best initial treatments to reduce spasm and pain to the area is ice for 20 minutes on the area every 1 to 2 hours. Your physician can prescribe a muscle relaxers such as Flexeril or Zanaflex or Robaxin. Usually with mild stretching and rest from lifting along with Relative rest your back should improve. If not or if the pain radiates below your knee you will need to see your physician.
