Sinusitis: Both acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis can cause a change in your sense of smell.  They can also cause bad breath.  If your sense of smell is severely compromised, see an ent.

Diagnosis: The best advice i can give you is to see an ENT specialist and have an appropriate diagnosis.  The ENT specialist can document three things. 1.)  a specific and proper diagnosis, 2.) perhaps a cat scan to document that diagnosis and 3.)  appropriate medical or surgical treatment based on the diagnosis.  Remember, always, diagnosis precedes treatment.

Not clear: How can you be tested for halitosis? Are you referring to a device which samples sulfur based compounds? If so it can be dependent upon when you are tested. In my experience issues as yours almost always involve foul smelling material that can form in the tonsil tissue that is found not only on the sides of your throat but in the back of your tongue as well. You need an ENT evaluation.

Just a thought: but you may have chronic infection of the "hidden" tonsils called the LINGUAL tonsils located on either side of the BACK OF YOUR TONGUE.... NOT to be confused by the most obvious tonsils on the sides of your pharynx which are easily visualized the LINGUAL tonsils require a small scope (or dentist's mirror) to visualize!
MENTION THIS to your doctor.....

Antibiotics: I too suffer with chronic sinus infection.I'd ask my dr for an antibiotic, even though little evidence supports the use in sinusitis.

Sinusitis: Yes, intermittent alterations in odor and light headedness may occur with changes in the upper respiratory tract accompanying sinusitis, but before making the assumption that this is what is causing your symptoms you should be seen by an ENT doctor to be sure that something more severe is not in progress. Bad sinusitis: Greetings, bad sinus infections need irrigation. First get a sinus rinse kit and wash the thick mucus and infection out. Afrin nasal spray may be used as directed x 5 days and no longer. This will help clear the infected material out of the sinuses so irrigation can continue to wash it away. Finally use ibuprofen 200 mg tabs if you are able 3-4 pills 3x/day with food x 10 days. This will help too.

had meningitis from bad sinus infection. cured, but does it mean i'll always immediately get it again if i get another sinus infection?

Not necessarily: No, not necessarily. However, when you have the first signs of a sinus infection, you should see your doctor to get on the right treatments.
