my son 11 ct scan right ear: what does it mean to have some mild membrane thickening in scattered mastoid air cells?

Mastoiditis: is an infection of the air cells of the mastoid sinuses, just behind the ear, a complication of otitis media.  It is a more serious infection and requires specialized treatment.  The CT finding you describe suggests  there is no mastoiditis but possible low grade inflammation of some mastoid air cells .  To prevent this make sure all ear infections are properly treated or tubes placed

can a one have sinus prob that do not show on ct scan? my ears pop, strange fullness on rt side of face and head. runny nose, watering eye headache. ?

Rule out allergy: A CAT scan of the sinuses is the most specific technique of identifying true sinus inflammation.  The symptoms you express are consistent with upper respiratory tract allergy.  Try OTC antihistamines such as Claritin (loratadine) or Allegra for some relief and if you do not see any improvement, consult an allergist.

if i have ct-scan for my ears, do i need lateral x-ray again to look for cholesteatoma?

If the purpose: Is to detect cholesteatoma the ct scan is the standard way to do this. Most findings of bone destruction due to cholesteatoma are far too subtle to be seen with plain x-ray.

had ct scan for sinus/ear.ent said it's clear.i looked at report it said i have a protuberant cavernous carotid artery covered by bone.what that mean?

Large vessel: The carotid arteries travel through the cavernous sinus which is  a venous drainage system covered in part by bone. I think that they are pointing out that the cavernous carotid artery is confined in bone. If the artery breaks through the bone, it is said to be dehiscent--this can lead to big nose bleeds.

can ent dr see if u have etd by checking ears or only thru a ct scan of sinus and ears?

ETD?: Eustachian tube dysfunction? Diagnosis can often by made by interview alone as symptoms/clinical course are typical. Aseptic swelling of the middle ear compartment (seen on ear exam) is supportive.  CT scan will not help. If severe, and optimized treatment strategies for allergic or non-allergic rhinitis, gastric reflux, etc fail; then ENT will sometimes place ear tubes.

i got diagnosed with iih in 2017. treated with acetazolamide which completely reduced optic nerve swelling so longer on medication. can iih cause constant dizziness? had normal ct scan last week and ears checked which are fine?

Accepted Answer

: Although constant dizziness  could be secondary to medication, anemia, thyroid issues, etc.; but, certainly low grade increased intracranial pressure can be the  culprit.  Recommend objectification via a lumbar puncture, and if pressure is elevated, you should restart your Diamox.

can a post nasal drip cause hearing loss? i have constant ringing and significant hearing loss in my left ear. ct scan came back normal. i was told i have a post nasal drip and i could have allergies?

i had a ct scan it's normal..my ear hurts n feels clogged off n on..headaches..dizzy n bad anxiety no inner ear infection either..what is this?!? ):

You said it yourself: You might have some congestion from allergies or a cold that intermittently causes a feeling of a congested ear;  but when you start talking about headaches, dizziness and anxiety, then the anxiety is likely the problem and may be causing the headaches and dizziness. Your doctor may be able to help you with that.

mri/ct scan norm. but im off balance, espeically when sitting on the tub shaving. ears have been checked, but theres air in one. what else could this?

Vertigo?: With normal testing as you've mentioned, vertigo remains a possibility. Imaging studies can very well be normal with vertigo. You would benefit from Neurologist consultation, and maybe vestibular rehab.

what does it mean when a ct scan shows fluid in my left ear?

Accepted Answer

Infection?: It depends.  For example, fluid in the middle ear cavity could indicate inflammation/infection i.e. otitis media. In a trauma setting, it could indicate a possible temporal bone fracture.  Need to follow up with  your doctor.
