The metal: can cause an artifact that might limit visualization of portions of the scan, so best to remove it.

See below: No contrast shows you the lung fields. Contrast enables you to see blood clots in the pulmonary vessels as well as differentiate between lymph nodes and vessels in the mediastinum, overall a better study if you can tolerate it (allergies, renal function).

It may: show part of the spleen, but usually not the whole spleen.  Also, the phase of contrast enhancement necessary for the PE study is usually not optimal for evaluating the spleen.

Old granulomatous: Disease of the chest is a benign finding.  See your doctor if symptoms persist.

Accepted Answer

Sign of asthma: Hyperinflation is a sign of asthma meaning the lungs are 'full' of air and literally 'trapped'.  Asthma is a reversible small airway disease in which inflammation, secretions, and spasm combine to keep air from 'getting out of lungs'.
Steroid (controller) inhalers are the mainstay of chronic asthma but are under-utilized by most asthma patients.

i had a ct of chest with contrast done.  incidentally, they found gallstones.  but i'm asymptomatic.  what should i do?

Gall stones: As long as you are asymptomatic you can be followed by your doctor .he may want to reduce fat and  cholesterol in your diet and possibly start you on  statins

seen in current ct of chest, previous ct in sept 2022 these were not seen: pleural based oval shaped nodular density 8.6 mm in right lower lobe. an 8 pleural based nodular density posteriorly in left lower lobe 4.4 mm. is this concerning?

: They are very small-too small to biopsy. Often, these end up being inflammatory nodules that will go away; sometimes new ones will appear. If you are smoking, you should quit ASAP. These will need to be followed so you should probably be re-scanned in about 3 months or so. If they haven’t changed, then the scan occurs again 6 months later and then a year after that, if there are no changes.

how often can thymoma be seen on 2 view chest x ray. ? what about an unenhanced ct of chest ?

: A standard chest X-ray would have insufficient resolution to exclude small intrathoracic soft tissue masses, and far better would be through the use of a CAT scan or MRI approaches.

is an uncoiling aorta dangerous if there are aneurysms in your family? will a ct of chest show the lungs and aorta?

Accepted Answer

: uncoiling of the aorta is part of aging and is not dangerous, as long as there is not aneurysm. An ultrasound examination is usually sufficient to evaluate for an aneurysm.

ct of chest showed  4 mm growth in lung. how often should the ct be repeated to monitor changes?  should anything else be done

Check with doctor .: Ct chest is so sensitive that it often picks up small masses a chest x-ray would not detect.  How soon will you need a repeat one depends on many factors including whether you had smoked in the past.   You need to talk to the radiologist or your doctor to find out when and if the ct needs be repeated.
