Not always: If it is emphysema then you see damaged  lung but someone can have significant. COPD without evidence on cy.

Yes if greatly enlar: An enlarged heart can be seen on X-ray or CT scan especially if it is greatly enlarged. However, the cause for the enlargement is usually not apparent by those means. An echocardiogram (ultrasound) usually does a better job. sometimes more specialized tests are needed. However, if this is the 1st time that an enlarged heart was detected, it is best to get it confirmed &amp; identify the cause. GL &amp; TY

Need more info: You might have COPD. Do you smoke? STOP IF YOU DO!! Are you seeing a pulmonologist. If not that is what I would suggest considering what you mention as "previous breathing issues".

: Thymus can be seen in CT. I would discuss with the dr who ordered it. Cancer is rare there.

Sometimes suggest: Pleural thickening/effusion can be distinguished with CT scanning.Nodular pleural thickening, thickening &gt; than 1 cm, involvement of mediastinal pleural surface, are highly suggestive of malignant pleural disease, either mesothelioma or metastases. Contrasted ,CT scans produce high-contrast images of affected areas to clearly show differences between  normal and cancerous tissue.MRI adjunct to CT.

hi, i had a ct of my chest with and without contrast my results only showed asymmetric breast densities, greater on the left and im a male is this bad?

Could just be skin: fold shadows on the CT, though CTs are pretty sensitive to densities that can be differentiated.  I would have a professional clinician examine you to see if there is breast tissue or augmentation going on...  Though whether or not it is bad depends on what that clinician found...

See below: No contrast shows you the lung fields. Contrast enables you to see blood clots in the pulmonary vessels as well as differentiate between lymph nodes and vessels in the mediastinum, overall a better study if you can tolerate it (allergies, renal function).

Superior imaging: The use of "contrast" in a ct scan enhances the imaging of the blood vessels.  Typically, contrast is an iodine containing liquid, which "blocks" the passage of x-rays.  The ability to see the blood vessels is far superior when contrast is used.

Echo is best test: An atrial septal defect, especially a small one, is likely to be missed on a ct of the chest.  The best way to identify an ASD is with an echocardiogram.  If an ASD is found, more sophisticated tests, such as cardiovascular MRI and radionuclide imaging, can further define the size and risks of an asd.

i was wondering is a ct angiogram of the chest the same as ct chest with contrast?

CT techniques: They are similar in many ways.  However, the timing of the contrast for CT angiogram is different to allow for better visualization of the blood vessels in the chest.
