Threatened abortion: Bleeding in early pregnancy is called a "threatened abortion" - it means that you may be having a miscarriage, but not necessarily. Sometimes bleeding happens in normal pregnancies, too. The best thing is to see your OB and probably have an exam and an ultrasound.

A one-time symptom?: Many women have occasional variation of their mucus discharge, spotting between periods, a heavier period, a lighter period, or a late or missed period. Causes include: excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, medicines, having an illness, traveling, birth control pills, hormonal imbalances, etc… if worried about pregnancy, one can do a test 3 weeks after sex.

Not uncommon: Women who are taking birth control pills continuously will sometimes have breakthrough bleeding.  And of course bleeding can be associated with cramping.  Extra estrogen can be used temporarily to stop this.  It would be best to see your gynecologist soon.

Have MD recheck: If you can&#x27;t find the string, have the MD who inserted the Mirena, (levonorgestrel) re exam you for the string and if found, ask him/her  to  show you how to feel the string before you leave the exam room. The string may have simply been cut too short.

It can : Yes, cramping may occur prior to the onset of your period.
Often some of these premenstrual symptoms--like bloating, breast tenderness, mood swings, cramping--can be dramatic. Sometimes trying advil, aleve, (naproxen) Motrin may help. If no relief or if symptoms worsen or persist, check with your gynecologist.

Implantation bleed: Implantation bleeding is much more common on the internet than in real life. It occurs rarely and exclusively in someone who is pregnant. The only way to know if someone had implantation bleeding or just irregular menstrual bleeding is to wait and see if you are pregnant. If your test is positive then this was implantation bleeding. If it is negative then it is just irregular menstrual bleeding.

Possible: If you were ovulating right around when it was pulled, then it is certainly possible for you to have conceived.  This might also depend on the type of iud that was in place as well.  My gut feeling is that you are probably not pregnant this soon, but take a pregnancy test now and in about 1-2 weeks to be sure.
