Accepted Answer

Yes: Immediately after removal of stitches, the skin will be approximately 75-90% it's normal tensile strength (depending on how long the stitches remained, quality of wound closure, and whether or not the wound was infected.)  assuming no traumatic contact to the repaired skin, one should be able to return to work with minimal or no restrictions.

i am 23 yo. f, and i am a registered nurse. i just had a melanoma removed, and have a large incision on my leg with stitches. i have had them now for about 5 days, but i am on my feet all day at work. when would you say i should return to work?

: I would discuss with your surgeon and ask that Dr who knows you, how deep was the cut and what he has experienced in others like you.

Concussion: This will depend on the duration and severity of symptoms, persistent symptoms like headache or fogginess, etc. It will also depend on the type of work you do. It would be good to check with your physician if you have any doubts. Hope you feel better soon.

i have stitches on left toe crease. 6 of them from cutting on glass . in 10 days i get them out .  then in another 6 i go back to work is this reasonable . and can i walk when i get stitches  out ? any advice appreciated ?

: There should be no reason why you cannot walk on it know unless the doctor is concerned about separation of the incision with weight bearing.  Should be able to return to work 14 days. Yes you should be able to bear weight or walk in it when returning to work

When wound heals: Wound should take 10-14 days to completely heal. Seafood puts you at risk for unusual infections such as mycobacterium marinium so wait until wound has completely healed.

Consult your doctor: If the laceration is reopening, you should consult with your physician.  Some minor separation may be acceptable, but any significant reopening of the wound should be evaluated as soon as possible.

Clarification: Stitches, when they are used with cataract surgery, are place out of the way of vision so they would not be interfering with your vision.  Sometimes they can be tight which can cause astigmatism and if so they are easily removed.

Shave or excision?: Moles are either shaved so that no sutures are used, or excised in order to prevent recurrence but will require sutures. In both cases you want to avoid scabs by keeping the wound moist with ointment so it does not scab and dry out. Both techniques can give an excellent cosmetic result but depend upon where the mole is.

Yes, usually.: It depends on what part of the body the stitches were placed, and why they were placed.  For example, facial scarring from surgical stitches can be fixed very well by good plastic surgery.  Stitches placed for an irregular injury are harder to fix.  The chest  doesn't heal very well, often leaving a scar that is stretched.  Have a plastic surgeon look at the scar.
