Yes: Immediately after removal of stitches, the skin will be approximately 75-90% it's normal tensile strength (depending on how long the stitches remained, quality of wound closure, and whether or not the wound was infected.) assuming no traumatic contact to the repaired skin, one should be able to return to work with minimal or no restrictions.

Depends: That depends on why you had stitches, what type of work you do and what working will do to your healing. Your doctor can best advise you on this. For example, if you had major surgery there may be other factors beyond stitches requiring you to not go back to work for a while.
