Could be other: With your history and age, the possibility of some fungus or other infectious process is a good possibility. Not all masses are cancer and even if this were to be such you are not doomed. Whatever it is, you need to diagnose what the mass represents and treat it. See a pulmonary specialist ASAP as infectious masses can be as problematic as cancer masses. Not getting a diagnosis is the bad thing.

what are the risks of lung biopsy surgery .?  i have mass 5 cm in left lung and it's not cancer and so confused about the surgery ..

Biopsy low risk : Any 5 cm mass in the lung should be removed, as there is risk that it could have cancerous elements even if the biopsy was negative.  If you are otherwise healthy, a surgical biopsy carries low risk of major complication (&lt;1%).  With that said, pain, recovery time, and complication rates can be affected by the approach the surgeon takes.  A minimally invasive (vats) approach has advantages

plureal  mass in left lung 5 cm. i did biobsy and pet scan and no evidence  of cancer.what is that.is it fungus or worm or what i should do..wheezing?

Pulmonologist: The possibility of a mass requires more diagnostics,  with your symptoms it is possible its pnemonia, much less concerning than a cancer mid-lung. Scanning can help, but a pulmonologist can decide the right test to reduce fear and misdiagnosis. Hopefully you are using a broncholdilator among the medications you are using. The pulmonologist can direct specific therapy and help treat what you have

my mom has stage 4 metastatic cancer of lungs, but primary is unknown. her gallbladder mass, ca is 19.9 which is high but her liver is alright. she got a ct scan done three months ago and her gallbladder seemed fine. could it be gallbladder cancer?

Possibly: Sorry to hear of this.If 90 days ago there was a normal gb on ct it's unlikely that this is the source. Your oncologist will guide you in determining management.If the gb is the source there's no advantage at this point to remove it. Good luck.

just had my 3rd low dose ct lung cancer scan. one in 2015, 2019 and now 2019. on all three they have noted a solitary 3mm non-calcified nodule within the medial subpleural aspect of the lingula, no pulmonary mass, nodule is stable and unchanged?

Lung nodule: Features of lesions that are likely non-cancerous : size&lt;3cm, smooth, round, calcified, age&lt;50, non-smoker etc. But it does need to be monitored for any changes. Feel free to discuss it personally with a physician and share the complete report of CT. Good luck

Cancer  less likely: Cancer is less likely but inflammation cause cause this like vasculitis,  or a  hypereosinophilic syndrome or an infection could be in these circumstances. You can be evaluated by a pulomnary specialist

Not always : But it should be evaluated.  Depending on it size and appearance, your doc may be more or less inclined to get a biopsy. I'm assuming he/she will if it is a "mass" and not a "tiny nodule" but not much more can be said with the info provided. Make sure you see your family doc and he/she will decide on the next step.  If you smoke, this is the time to quit.

Density: Can be circumscribed, or spiculated  increased density anywhere in the lungs.
May present as a pneumonia, coin lesion, with or without fluid, or pain.
May present with metastases present already.
Bad thing to have!
 stop smoking!

Yes: The large majority of lung masses in non-smokers are old scars. In my part of the country, it's usually histoplasmosis, but a variety of other inflammatory or bnign neoplastic situations can give a lung mass. The radiologist can usually tell whether cancer is a possibility and if so, the pathologist will need to get tissue. Good luck and thanks for asking.
