Yes: It can.  Costochondritis is a musculo-skeletal problem with ribs and joint between the ribs and sternum.  Just like a muscle pull, strain, or tear anywhere else in the body (e.g. Leg), motion will worsen the pain due to repetitive motion on the already weakened and inflammed area.  It usually doesn't cause serious problems but if persistent, see your doctor.

No: Costocondritis, sometimes called tietze's syndrome, is an inflammation in the cartilage between the rib and the breastbone or sternum. It causes pain and sorness in the chest but not in an arm or leg.

i have had heart palpitations for 3 days now with mild discomfort i was diagnosed with costochondritis in 2013 can this cause palpitations?

No: Costochondritis is not a cause of palpitations.

Chest pain/discomfort with palpitations should  should be evaluated for alternative causes.

Heart rhythm problems may or may not be the cause of the chest symptoms.

Best is to see a doctor for formal evaluation and since symptoms are ongoing, , would consider this evaluation to be done promptly.

i have a vein slightly sticking out my upper right side flank/breast for 4 months. it occurred at the same time as my costochondritis. it causes mild pain/discomfort. chest ct scan & ultrasound of vein normal. any ideas why my vein is poking out?

: If you have any respiratory symptoms,such as shortness of breath or decreased exercise tolerance, please see a Cardiologist. Malformation of the vessels may also be evaluated by MRI. Watch for signs of chest pain around the vein, syncope and dizziness.

Atypical chest pain: Flu-cold - pericarditis (less when leaning forward) or pneumonia (worse when taking deep breath). Cough &amp; Pain when your chest is pressed-costochondritis. Leg swelling-DVT(blood clot in leg going to lungs).

i've had right-side/sternum chest discomfort for the past three days after a panic attack. i can't tell if it gets worse with movement, it's just a dull ache that makes me anxious which leads to my heart pounding. nerves or possible costochondritis?

: Most likely a non-cardiac cause such as costochondritis ,but a diagnosis can only be made after evaluation by a physician. Reassurance by a physician will go a long way to providing reassurance. I hope you will pursue this approach. Good luck.

?endoscopy: Gerd can burning in throat and chest discomfort as well as causing food to get caught in esophagus. Costochondritis is inflammation of junction of ribs with cartilage in front of chest along the side of sternum. Usually tenderness to touch and pain with movement but not burning in throat. You need to see G-I doctor since meds not working. You may need someone to look down the esophagus.
