Cosmetic surgery: Is not for weight loss. That being said, if you have already lost around 100 pounds via diet and exercise or bariatric surgery, there is a lot of loose skin that needs plastic surgery. I have removed over 31 pounds of skin and fat from a gastric bypass patient during beltlift surgery. Most patients lose about 6-8 pounds with beltlift and less with tummy tuck. Lipo is for shape not weight loss!

Typically 4-6 months: I have heard of certain surgeons performing limited tummy tucks (witch hazel) at the time of c-section. However this does involve additional risks and is not a common practice. Most would advise allowing adequate time for your body to return to a normal metabolic state as well stable weight and skin contraction prior to considering any cosmetic intervention. This is usually a minimium of 4 and preferably 6 mos.

Yes: Occasionally studies are done which includes the delivery of care for the volunteers.  Best examples deal with liposuction studies dealing with stem cells.  Patients have volume of fat removed, and the fat studied in a laboratory.  The patient does get either reimbursement or no cost surgery treatments.
