i am 52 years old male person my both ear drums are perforated almost ten years ago and doctor advised me to undergo surgery,occasionally it oozes (pus or water). my hearing capacity has dwindled,now can i use over the ear headphones with low volume?

: Best would be to obtain a referral to an ENT physician to determine possible treatment to see if ear drums might be repaired. It is unlikely for more damage to be incurred using headphones.

Yes,may not need sur: Most eardrum perforations heal on their own and do not require surgery. Surgery may be needed if it is a large perforation that does not heal on its own.
Once it is healed your hearing should return to normal and you will be able to swim.

: You could have tubes put in your ear drums that would allow any fluid to drain but risk easier germ entry into the middle ear. It would be best to discuss it with an ENT that knows you well. Fixing allergies or other issues could end the fluid buildup.

Perforation: You can try a hair dryer set on low heat and power to gently blow air to dry the canal. Do not put anything that has alcohol in an ear with a perforation.  It will hurt.

Yes: But it depends on the size, reason for, and location o the perforation. Also the possibility that one of the hearing bones might "dislocated" or eroded needs to be evaluated. This can be determined by a thorough ear exam and a hearing test.

Broken eardrum: I believe you are referring to a perforated tympanic membrane (eardrum). This can be caused by a direct injury to the ear (something punctures the eardrum). It can be caused by an ear infection. It can also be caused by pressure, as in diving. I'm not a specialist, but i think these generally heal on their own.
