can your contact lens prescription tell you what kind of vision you have (ie. 20/20)?

Accepted Answer

No: Your prescription tells you if you are myopic, hyperopic, and/or if you have astigmatism. It doesn't tell you how far down the chart you can read, but with the correct prescription you should see 20/20 assuming no ocular pathology to limit  your vision potential.

Yes: All contact lenses, even cosmetic ones,  require a prescription to buy legally in the U.S.

is it possible for you to correct vision to 20/20 also what is 20/40 can you express it as a prescription?

Accepted Answer

Yes mostly: If the optical and retinal elements of the eye are normal, then correction to 20/20 is the usual outcome with proper eyeglass correction.  20/40 is a level of vision two lines down from "normal" meaning a line of letters large enough that a person seeing 20/20 could read that line of print 40 feet away.  The prescription depends on whether you are myopic, hyperopic or astigmatic.

Presciption number: Those are two different things, like how much you weigh compared to how fast you can run.  
Your glasses or contact lens presciption is measured in units called diopters.  It is the power of the lens (how curved it is) required to correct your vision back to normal clarity, which is seeing at 20 feet what other normal balanced eyes can see at 20 feet.

No: I am not sure why you would want to wear such a miniscule prescription but if you like it, go ahead.

No: Your prescription is rather weak and not required if your vision is 20/20. Your uncorrected vision won't prevent you from seeing 20/20 either. If your rx was just a bit stronger, you'd be blurrier without glasses. Night time vision brings out the blurry vision more, and therefore you may like this slight visual improvement. Either way, wearing your minimal rx won't harm your eyes.

Fuzzy connection: In general the higher the refractive number (diopters like -2.00) then the worse the vision,  but the relationship is not linear and one cannot be used to compute the other.They both have their uses which is why they both persist.

how do i know if my prescription glasses correct my eyes to 20/20? and are all glasses correctable to 20/20? and how do i know if i have depth perception?

: You can order a Snellen Eye Chart from Amazon for under $10. Hang it at 20 feet away with good lighting and the last line you see well is your vision. Depth perception is created by the 2 eyes, separated by a few inches, looking at the same object. The depth is obvious but hard to explain. If this is confusing, have your doc test you. Proper optical aids can correct most, but not all visual issues

c.r.t. is the contact lense you wear at night, then remove in the day to achieve 20/20 vision, does this work?

Sort of: These contacts are designed to change to shape of the eye while asleep.  The change then reverts during the day.  It is expensive and the vision varies during the day as the eye changes.  A better answer is to just wear contact lenses during the day or get laser done.

Possibly: If the eyeglasses or contact lenses permit you to have vision corrected the point that you can comfortably read the 20/20 line, then you have correctable 20/20 vision.
