i have a constant urge to urinate when i actually don't need to, and when i need to go hardly anything comes out and it's uncomfortably tickly. why?

Bladder infection: It's possible that you have a bladder infection. Your bladder becomes inflamed in an infection and gives you the feeling that you have to go even when you don't. You should see your doctor for a simple urine test which can tell whether you need antibiotics or not.

Infection possible: Urgency (the urge to pee) can be a symptom if infection or of irritation.  Drink more fluid today (without caffeine, sugar, salt) and get checked.  The sooner you treat a urinary tract infection the better.  They will not usually go away without treatment.  Avoid scented soaps, bubble baths, detergents, fabric softeners, etc, to. If you have fever, vomiting, or pain in back or belly, etc.to ER.

Infection, maybe.: You may have a urinary tract infection which can cause these symptoms. Possible uti: Urinary frequency with only small amounts of uine, with r without burning, can be a symptom of a urinary bladder infection. Ordering a urinalysis,microscopic examination, urine culture and colony count is the appropriate way to evaluate your symptoms.

Just a thought: but this sounds like INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS an inflammation/infection where the urge to urinate originates in the bladder wall itself rather than the superficial lining!
Discuss with your Family Physician/GYN this can be "stubborn" and there is SPECIFIC TREATMENT!

Yes.: The irritation caused by an indwelling urinary catheter can manifest as urgency and frequency. With time, these symptoms should improve. If these symptoms do not improve, or you have a fever, this could be a sign of a urinary tract infection and should prompt an evaluation with a urine culture.

Need urinalysis: You first need to rule out a urinary tract infection which can cause this symptom. Antibiotics should take care of it providing you have a uti. There is obviously another cause  such as an overactive bladder, interstitial cystitis or bladder stone etc. If no uti. You should thus see your dr., and you may well need to consult with a urologist if your dr. Can't take care of it. Good luck.

UTI?: These symptoms are most suggestive of a urinary tract infection. A urinalysis as well as a urine culture should be obtained and then start on empiric therapy with perhaps Ciprofloxacin but if you are nursing then probably Keflex or duracef. You should also push fluids and perhaps take cranberry juice or tablets and for symptom relief over-the-counter Azo  or Pyridium (phenazopyridine) it's not nursing.

Sometimes: It is often normal to have these sensations as the baby is pressing on your bladder, but it could be a sign of a uti.

Many causes: It is possible you have chronic pelvic pain syndrome. There are many causes of nonbacterial and noninfectious cystitis.Not enough space here to discuss in detail. You should see a urologist for cystoscopy,possible bladder biopsy and an accurate history with a urination diary.and a review of any medications you are taking,seeing if there is residual urine remaing after urination.
