if i have gastritis or an ulcer, will the ppis always help? i've been taking pantoprazole for a month, and i'm still experiencing stomach burning.

Return to your doc.: If you are still having symptoms after one month of a PPI, you should return to your doctor to see if further testing needs to be done, or if you need a different medication or a change in the dosage of the current one. In the meantime, it will not hurt to add over-the-counter antacids, such as Tums, (calcium carbonate)  to your regimen. Good luck.

used lodine or celebrex (celecoxib) on and off for 3 or 4 years. occasionally had some stomach burning. havent used in 3 months can it still cause an ulcer?

Maybe, but not DUE.: Even people who have never used those meds may get stomach ulcers, so your being off them for a few months doesn't eliminate the possibility.

i have persistent stomach burning that leans to the left. and have medium peptic ulcers and small hatial hernia . although my carafe and omeprazole aren't working been on them for a couple weeks. could it be something else?

Help-: Honey may or may not help. What will help more is to avoid all foods and liquids that produce these problems. You may also want to consult with a local physician to rule out all other medical issues.

: How long do you have the symptoms. Is there any nausea/vomiting.Any heart burn? Do  you still have the gall bladder. Does the pain go the back.Is it continuous or intermittent . It is good to be examined by your PCP to come to a diagnosis . There are few other possibilities other than stomach and duodenum as the cause of the pain. Need to r/o problems from gall bladder,liver,heart,pancreas ,colon.

: You likely have GERD (GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease).
There are some tips to alleviate the symptoms: avoid the foods which exacerbate symptoms, avoid supine position within 2 hours after meals, raise the head of your bed with at least 2 bricks, taking PPI (over the counter) such as Prilosec OTC, Omeprazole, Prevacid or Nexium (see their label for instruction) for 2 months.

Possible: See a doctor soon. Seeing red blood on your stool usually means 2 possible things: it is coming from a stomach or small intestine rapidly bleeding ulcer, or it is coming from a lower source like a hemorrhoid (if you're constipated this is likely it). Rarer inflammatory causes exist too. If you've had acid for many years you are at risk for an ulcer, you should be taking an acid-blocking medicine.

It could be: Several problems could cause abdominal burning sensation but the most common would be stomach irritation (gastritis) or even stomach ulcers. Less likely would be gallbladder problems or other intestinal problems. To figure out the actual cause you may need upper endoscopy (egd) which is very effective at diagnosing ulcers and gastritis and is a quick 5 minute procedure done with light IV sedation.

Very Very Unlikely: Your stomach pain may or may not be due to Nuzac you took last night but it is unlikely to cause an ulcer in the stomach
