Concussion Contusion: A contusion is an injury to the brain that causes a bruise (bleeding) which will usually be identifiable on ct scan. A concussion will usually have no bleeding on the scan, although damage, whether reversible or not, occurs.

Differences: Coma is a state of unconsciousness unresponsiveness.
Contusion is a bruise with a bit of bleeding
concussion is a state of altered mental status, confusion, disorientation, clouded thinking, difficulty with vision and walking.  The individual may have a feeling that they do not recall what happened to them.

See Dr.: See a physician if u continue to have pain ; headaches, confusion ... Even  if u have difficulty concentrating  w/ in next 24 hrs see physician. Not all ' bangs on the head' are as serious as concussions but occassionally they are worse...( epidural / subdural  hematomas, intracerebral bleeds etc.)...These are much less infrequent but see md if sx's persist..!

A : A concussion is simply traumatic brain injury as the result to a direct or indirect blow to the head. A ct can rule out fracture or bleeding but cannot diagnose a concussion. A contussion is merely the outer swelling/bruising of the skin and head. 
Symptoms of concussion include: altered level of consciousness, headache, nasea/vomiting, etc. 
At this point in time the most important things to rule out are bleed/fracture which the ct did. Now you just need to monitor for improvement.

Likely, bt not alwys: Concussion or mild traumatic brain injury can involve both an indirect and direct hit to the head even if there are no obvious bruises, lumps or cuts. Also, you don't have to lose consciousness to be diagnosed with a concussion. Having your body slammed into the ground (wrestlers or football players) even without any direct hit to your head can cause one.

Concussion: Loss of smell is fairly common after concussions. Often there is a fracture through the cribiform plate (which can be hard to visualize on a CT scan of the brain) or shearing of the tethered olfactory tract. Generally the sense of smell remains diminished and likely will not improve after six months from the time of the head trauma.
