Is a brain contusion different from a concussion?

Related: "concussion" describes the suite of symptoms related to a recent head injury. A "brain contusion" is the actual bruise on your brain caused by the head injury and, in turn, causing the symptoms of the concussion.

Slightly: A concussion is an injury to the brain caused by forces transmitted to it from the body. A brain contusion is a type of concussion characterized by a collection of blood within the brain seen on imaging (Ct scan, MRI). Most concussions have normal imaging, so seeing a collection of blood (contusion) in the brain would imply a more serious injury.
