Accepted Answer

NO!: Digital dental x-rays are about 1 rad each since the computer software program amplifies them for the monitor.  Dental films about 15 rads.  To put dose into perspective, a woman who receives radiation as a treatment for breast cancer will receive about 5, 000 rads.  It is far riskier to not have dental x-rays to catch cavities/infections/growths than to wait for pain/swelling/abscess/cancer.

Accepted Answer

Depends: Average life span of a crown is 10-15 years, which means half last longer and half don't.  Depends on how well you care for your teeth and gums ( yes, daily flossing required), your occlusion, how much tooth material remains under the crown, stress (gum chewing, hard candy/ice, bagels, etc), parafunctional habits, etc.  ask the person that knows your situation best, your Dentist.

Possible: It is possible as with all drugs, however it is very rare.

Accepted Answer

Occlusion (bite): Teeth are not like steel poles set in concrete. There is some slight movement. The more ideal the occlusion (bite) the more they tend to stay in place (barring periodontal disease). There may be some slight shifting over time but they should remain in the same position. Parafunctional habits may also play a role in tooth movement.

is it normal to have dental sealants on all of your teeth for life?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: Sealants can only be used on the grooves of the back teeth. That being said, the sealants will last a long time, probably not your whole life. However, they can be re-applied if they come off.  There are no sealants for the front teeth.

what will the effects on my jawbone be over time if i get full dental implants at age 22? what problems would i have to deal with throughout my life?

Less natural: Your only 22 years old &amp; your considering full dental implants? Are most of your teeth rotted to the core and/or do you have severe periodontal disease?  It is much better to keep  &amp; maintain your own natural teeth. Dental implants are fantastic as a second choice only.  Please consult both a Periodontist &amp; a Prosthodontist to discuss all your dental options &amp; more complete answer to your question

i am 16 years old and i have had great dental hygiene my whole life. my permanent teeth feel loose. are my teeth goingto fall out?

Loose teeth: There can be many causes for teeth feeling loose. Please see your dentist for an evaluation and no I do not think they will fall out. Let us know what the finding is.

Muscle spasms likely: Muscle spasms are being triggered by the drug withdrawal, dental problems, or both. A low dose muscle relaxant medication would help. Mechanical cervical traction in physical therapy could help greatly, and a home unit could be provided. Training in biofeedback with a therapist/psychologist also works well for muscle spasms.

i have reactions to epinephrine in dental anesthesia.  i am going to get 2 teeth pulled next week. what are the chances of having a life threatening side effect?

Epinephrine: Discuss your concerns with the oral surgeon before your appointment. Epinephrine is naturally produced by your body.  Your extractins can be done safely.

full knee replacement 11 months ago.  antibiotics needed prior to any dental care for the rest of my life?

Accepted Answer

Depends: The guidelines for antibiotic premedication before dental care leave much discretion to the treating surgeon's recommendation. Generally at least 2-5 years after fixture placement and afterwards as needed per surgeon's directive.
