Cold sore: Nasal lesions and eye pain can be associated with viral diseases the most serious being Herpes Zoster or shingles.  Cold sores can also cause this.  Touching your cold sore before touching your eyes can cause eye infections.  Herpes Simplex infections could also cause this.  Serious eye infections eye damage can result.  Seek immediate medical attention if you have redness or decreased vision.

Potential problem: Generally, the cold sore virus or herpes simplex virus spreads by being in the nervous system of your body.  It is good practice to not touch your eyes without washing your hands first, preferably with soap and water (hand sanitizer has alcohol which can irritate or burn the sensitive tissues of the eye).  Symptoms include redness, pain and blurred vision, but may not be connected to your  problem.

: Unlikely the kids will it as they were kissed on the head/ cheek. Since you intermittently get cold sore avoid kissing children on the eyes or mouth or any mucus membrane(as can shed w/o symptoms). There may be some risk to your husband. How often do you get cold sores? If several times a year  discuss with your physician suppressive therapy with  Valacyclovir or even consider Lysine 500  mg /day

Herpes transmission : Herpes is infectious  if mucus  membrane to  mucus membrane  contact. There is  a possibility  since the baby touched the mouth and then their eyes/ mouth and is 14 weeks . May  consider prophylactic  acyclovir by mouth since the baby is so young.The baby should be monitored for fever or pain  and if any signs  go to ER  Call the pediatrician today to discuss. Herpes is serious in babies.

Herpes spread: You can infect the eyes by direct contact.contact with the lip sore and contacting the eyes with the same source can cause infection in the eyes. It takes direct contact,otherwise it would stay localized on the lip.

Uncommon: Cold sores of the lips usually do not affect the eye, however Herpes infections can affect the eye.  If you have any pain, get seen immediately by an Ophthalmologist.  Shingles can affect the area and if the tip of the nose is involved, the eye can be involved as well.
